This years MRCC Seniors Festival is jammed pack with activities! Thank you to this wonderful group that attended our Deakin Avenue walk. Bob & Barbie shared all of their knowledge about the historic avenue. What is great about these tours is hearing the stories and memories that those who attend share with us also.

We have one more tour left as part of our Seniors Festival, you can join us this Friday 23 October at 10am, meeting at the front of the Mildura City Heart offices.

A Chaffey legacy still delivering for Mildura 140 years later.

When George and W.B Chaffey established the Mildura irrigation settlement, they brought with them innovative ideas about town planning, irrigation, enterprise and community development.

One of those ideas was to set aside land to help fund education by creating what became Mildura’s unique College Lease system.

Lease revenue continues to support schools across Sunraysia. It is another remarkable example of the foresight and innovation of the Chaffey brothers, and the lasting legacy they left throughout our region.

Take a few minutes to read this fascinating ABC article and discover another piece of the Chaffey story.

👉 Maybe it's time to rediscover the Chaffey Trail. Remember many of the ideas, buildings, engineering achievements and innovations introduced during their era are still part of Mildura today.

One of our favourite productions in our collection.

Merbein Museum is open 2- 4pm every Thursday and 3rd Sunday of month. MDHS Meeting Tues 22 Sept 7.30pm will a feature a film "The History of the Railway" hosted by Bruce McLean. Bruce recently completed a project with Ian MacWilliams, (Frames of History podcast) to present his collection of rail history in the Sunraysia region into this new, excellent film, produced in collaboration with the Chaffey Trail Reference Group.

Merbein Museum is open 2- 4pm every Thursday and 3rd Sunday of month. The Merbein Mural Project Committee under the auspices of the Merbein District Historical Society Inc is now seeking funds to have a heritage mural (STAGE 1), painted by Australia's internationally recognised mural artist, Fintan Magee, a reality in October this year. (STAGE 2) of the Murals Project will involve local artists and subjects. Recent Academic Research has shown that large scale, quality art images that tell a unique local story, have positive benefits on both the economy and culture of a town.
