Eva Wheatley was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma only a few weeks after her 4th birthday. She fought this beast for 2 years and 8 months, losing her left arm to it in early 2014. Conventional treatment options were exhausted early in her battle and she tried a number of experimental treatments not tried with her cancer type before. Her positive spirit and joy in life has inspired many along the

way. Despite losing her on 28/10/14 her short life continues to inspire thousands. Eva's family and friends are determined to continue Eva's legacy by honouring her example in always looking for sunshine in the shadows. We will:
* Raise community and government awareness of childhood cancer and empower others to become involved and make a difference for children with cancer.
* Raise money for translational research into high risk childhood cancers.
* Raise money to help children who have exhausted standard treatment options to obtain personalised medical assistance.

Sometimes it’s hard to be optimistic.

The U.S. end-of-year legislative package failed to pass two critical bills for childhood cancer: the Give Kids a Chance Act and the Creating Hope Act. These bills required no federal funding and were designed to incentivise drug development and clinical trials for childhood cancer. The Creating Hope Act's priority review voucher program, which facilitated the development of key childhood cancer drugs, has now expired for the first time in 12 years. There will be no incentives for companies to develop drugs expressly for kids with cancer and other life threatening illnesses. Four of the last seven drugs developed expressly for kids' cancers used these vouchers. The Give Kids a Chance Act aimed to ensure that drug combinations studied for adults are also studied in children, as single-agent treatments are less effective for childhood cancer.

This failure highlights how children are often overlooked, with political priorities overshadowing the health of children. Adding to the concern, the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in the US, an unelected body focused on budget cuts and co-chaired by billionaires Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, are likely to recommend even further cuts impacting the advance of childhood cancer research. The global childhood cancer community must raise awareness and support our US childhood cancer families in their demand that Congress prioritise children’s health by revisiting these bills in the next legislative session.
These families have a lot of hard work ahead.

Dr. Michael Taylor at Texas Children's Hospital is leading groundbreaking research on medulloblastoma, showing it may begin in the brain's nodulus at birth. His findings suggest that removing the polyp form from the nodulus could prevent this devastating disease. This could mean a simple blood test at birth might one day prevent medulloblastoma entirely!

Here’s how families impacted by medulloblastoma can help:
Dr. Taylor needs a large volume of blood samples to advance his work, but bureaucratic hurdles are slowing progress. Families impacted by medulloblastoma can play a vital role in helping him collect these samples.

Join us for a webinar with Dr. Taylor to learn more about his work and how you can take action to save lives.
