Set the Standards - Responding to Racism

When someone experiences racism, how we
respond can make all the difference.
You don’t need to have all the answers. Taking
the time to listen, believe someone’s
experience and check on their wellbeing can
help them feel supported, respected and
valued.
Responding with care also helps build trust
and reinforces that your club is committed to
creating a safe and inclusive environment for
everyone.
Set the Standard provides practical guidance
to help coaches, committee members and club
leaders respond with confidence and support
those affected by racism.
Want to learn more about how your club can
respond to racism? Find practical resources

2026 Are Able All Abilities Cricket Carnival Wrap-Up

Over two days at Mildura Senior College, seventy-one players of all abilities came together to play, learn and celebrate. The players ranged from school students to senior teams who had travelled from across the region. On Thursday, the Swan Hill Sharks, Mallee Duststorm, Warracknabeal and Wyndham Tigers competed alongside two school teams. In addition to plenty of laughter and joking, some superb cricket was played in pursuit of the perpetual trophies. Wyndham Tigers went undefeated in the Senior Division to take out top prize, while Mildura Heat bested their opponent Mildura Hothouse in the School Division. The highlight for the day was Luke 'Huddo' Hudson coming out of retirement to play for Warrack Warriors in their last game after they had suffered a couple of injuries.
Friday was all about fun and connection. Skills stations, mixed All-Stars teams and the new Staff vs Participants match gave everyone a chance to have a go, change things up and have some fun. The day finished with a BBQ lunch together, and a few novelty trophies were awarded.
Thank you to Are Able, Mildura Rural City Council, Cricket Victoria, Mildura Settlers Cricket Club, Lower Murray Water, Mildura Lions Club and Community Bank Merbein & District. Thanks also to the coaches, carers, teachers, families and volunteers who made it possible.
