WORDS CANT EXPRESS OUR GRATITUDE TO EACH AND EVERYONE WHO HELPED MAKE OUR 3rd HIGHTEA FUNDRAISER SUCH A SUCCESS. 🙏🩷🥂🍾
Because of such a wonderful combined community effort we were able to raise:

$ 15,223.60

Meaning Sunraysia Cancer Resource Group and Mildura Health Foundation will each receive:

$ 7,611.60

to help them continue their amazing work in support of those facing health challenges within our region.

The Cardross Community is holding their annual Spring Show and Outdoor Market this Saturday October 10 at the Cardross Public Hall. This show has great meaning for the community as it honours the wisdom of the original dried fruit growers in the Cardoss soldier settlement fruit block allocation when they recognised the need for a community hall ……and it stands here 88 years later. In this sturdy red brick hall they regularly held Spring Shows 80 years ago iand for the last 25 years the current progress association have followed almost exactly in their footprint. We have the most amazing support from the community every year donating and sposoring fantastic prize money for the show and not surprisingly most are descendants of those original settlers. We added a small local market, stalls including plants, flowers, iris rhizomes , fruit and nuts, citrus, produce, cakes, crafts and plenty of food, refreshments and entertainment, seating under cover and free activities for the children. Entry to the market area is free for all and entry to the competition inside the hall from 10.30 is $5 for adults and under 16 free. Entries in the Show Schedules are closing soon.

The October meeting flower competition tables were so bright and colourful with roses, alstroemeria and gerbera putting on a good display. Entering flowers in our monthly competition is great for developing skills on techniques for staging flowers for local Spring and Autumn shows either as single cuts or in vases and containers. Judging of these exhibits by other members builds their skill too as knowing what the finer points of exhibition of blooms are including including what an exhibition rose is from a decorative rose or old fashion style rose or what can be exhibited as a bloom from a bulb, tuber, corm or rhizome for instance. First and second place getters during the year are recorded and winners announced at our Christmas Dinner in December. It is a great learning experience for all.

IT WILL NOW BE HELD AT THE MASONIC LODGE ON 15th Street in Irymple due to the ever changing weather forecasts and the likelihood of rain. Your comfort and the success of the day are our number ONE priority leading to this change. We look forward to sharing in a lovely afternoon together in support of two such wonderful local charities.

Local gardeners are encouraged to participate in two upcoming shows. Cardross Spring Show and Outdoor Market is a fundraising event that follows the tradition of the fruit blockies of Cardross who held an annual show in October except for the war years and certain years when the Progress Association had some years of recess. The Progress Association reformed in 2001 and revisited the last show held back in 1963 as a one -off fundraising event to give the hall a bit of maintenance. Here we are in 2026 still holding the Spring Show and still using funds raised to continue enhancing the well used 88 year old Pulic Hall.
The Mildura Show has been a long favourite on a more grand scale with most people remembering Show Day public holiday in the past, ferris wheels , merry go rounds and fairy floss. Oh and a great flower pavilion too. Both shows cater for competitions for all ages. Look for the Mildura Show details on line.

This selection of pictures from the Spring Show are entries in Open Floral Design. Titled Clockwork Orange, the marrying together of the colour orange to timepieces or clocks was popularised after a book and movie of the same name. Delving more deeply into the storyline of the book and movie I wonder why the term Clockwork Orange is so widely used in floristry and competitive floral art, probably because in floral art interesting themes using colours, song, book and movie titles are often used for interpretive designs. One that comes to mind was The Colour Purple in a movie title category. Enjoy the Clockwork Orange entries.
