We are saddened to hear of the passing of David Malouf, twice a Festival guest who in 2018 was awarded our Philip Hodgins Memorial Medal for Excellence in Literature.

Our condolences to his loved ones.

David Malouf, An Imaginary Life

Award-winning Australian author, poet, essayist and librettist David Malouf — perhaps most famous for his portrait of mid-century Brisbane in his 1975 debut novel Johnno — has died at age 92.

Once touted as a candidate for the Nobel Prize, Malouf was declared a National Living Treasure in 1997 and received the Australia Council Award for Lifetime Achievement in Literature in 2016.
