In some tragic news, a woman lost her life after a house fire in Mildura early yesterday morning, with emergency services called to a unit on Sunnyside Avenue just after midnight where they found her unresponsive.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t be saved, and died at the scene, with local coppers confirming she was the only person in the home at the time.

Her identity has not yet been formally confirmed, while investigators work to determine what caused the fire, which at this stage is not believed to be suspicious.

This really is heartbreaking, and now there’s a family receiving the worst kind of call, trying to wrap their heads around something that doesn’t make sense yet.

Thinking of her family and loved ones during this time. No one deserves this. 💔

An 84-year-old woman has been hospitalised after what should have been a routine trip from Mildura to Melbourne turned into a lengthy bus ordeal – and it’s left serious questions about how regional transport is being managed. 😡

Kris Thornton had planned a standard journey via Swan Hill, expecting to transfer from a bus to a train. Instead, she was told on arrival that the entire trip had been switched to buses, with no clear prior notice.

For someone who relies on a walking stick, that’s not a small change – it removes access to basic facilities and makes an already long journey far more difficult.

With only a bottle of water and a small breakfast, she boarded a service that offered limited stops and little flexibility. A brief stop in Bendigo lasted around ten minutes, which she said wasn’t enough, even after passengers raised concerns and asked for more time.

By the time she arrived in Melbourne, she was dehydrated and suffering from low blood sugar before collapsing. She was admitted to hospital that night and remained there for eight days. Eight days from what should have been a straightforward trip. 🤦‍♂️

The situation highlights broader frustrations with regional services, where last-minute changes and poor communication can have serious consequences, particularly for older and more vulnerable passengers.

While an apology has been issued, it does little to address the bigger issue – how a system that continues to see major investment can still fail at the most basic level when it matters most.

Someone has nicked an Automatic External Defibrillator – or AED – from a Mildura water park, and fair dinkum, it’s hard to overstate how low that is.

These things aren’t just fancy gadgets – they’re used when someone’s in sudden cardiac arrest, and that’s no small thing.

Cardiac arrests have seen a sharp spike in Australia (and the rest of the world) since late 2021, so having one of these nearby can mean the difference between someone walking away or never getting back up.

Cops reckon the AED was ripped straight off the wall at the Hugh King Drive park sometime between 5pm on Monday 2 June and 10am Tuesday 3 June.

The thing’s worth about three grand, but its real value is in giving the public instant access to life-saving help.

And where did it end up? Not sold to fund a dodgy gambling habit. Not passed on to someone who might actually use it. Nah, the thief dumped it in a bin nearby.

Now there’s one less AED for locals if someone drops in the wrong place at the wrong time – all because someone thought it’d be a good idea to flog it.

The Latji Latji, Ngintait and Nyeri Nyeri peoples have been granted native title over a large area in north-west Victoria, following a Federal Court ruling in Mildura.

The determination recognises their rights to access and use the land, protect cultural sites, and continue traditional practices. It marks the end of a native title claim first lodged in 2015.
