PlusLife

PlusLife All PlusLife tissue grafts are donated in Australia. Nearly 15,000 grafts have been distributed for more than 8,500 patients since the bank was established.

PlusLife (Perth Bone & Tissue Bank) is a not-for-profit organisation that retrieves, processes and distributes donated human bone and tissue for transplant purposes. As a registered charity and the only bone bank in Western Australia, PlusLife provides an essential service to the health sector. 75% of grafts are distributed to benefit patients in Western Australian and approximately 25% is sent to

interstate locations. Amongst the recipients are children and adolescents with spinal deformities, bone tumour patients (generally young people who have avoided amputation of a limb by receiving a graft); and many patients with arthritic joint disease caused by debilitating arthritis, whose mobility and general wellbeing has been improved by receiving bone grafts from PlusLife. Tonight, we come together for Donor Hero Night to honour the extraordinary individuals who gave the gift of life through donation 💙

This evening is an opportunity to reflect, remember, and celebrate the Gift of Life by lighting a candle or leaving your porch light on. To help raise awareness, we encourage you to share a photo of your tribute with Donor Families Australia.

Today is International Nurses Day, and we recognise and thank our incredible donor liaison nurses 💙

Our nurses play a vital role in the donation journey—from guiding and supporting donors and their families with compassion and care, to working closely with medical teams to ensure each donation is carried out with dignity and the highest standard of care.

Thank you for the empathy you show, the trust you build, and the difference you make every single day.

Thank you for the important reminder DonateLife 🩷

Be sure your family knows your wishes about organ and tissue donation—without their consent, donation can not go ahead.

Not only do they provide great images like this one but our Microbiology team ensure the tissue we produce is safe and suitable for implantation. By collecting and testing air samples they are able to identify if any bacteria is present.

The gram stain is a crucial first step in monitoring and maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety in our allografts.

During hip replacement surgery, the femoral head—the ball part of the hip joint—is typically removed and discarded.

With your consent, PlusLife can repurpose this bone into life-changing allograft. Bone graft procedures are very common and are used to repair bone defects, support spinal procedures in adolescents, and aid in complex hip and knee surgeries.

Your donation could change the life of someone in need 🩷
