Week 1 of our AFL Finals Tipping competition sees 9 tipsters go straight through to Week 2, while 2 of our punters were eliminated from the comp, and another 7 only managed to survive thanks to a 2nd chance bonus.

The Lions are running as crowd favourites in this weeks tips.

Where are they now?

An old memory (pic) popped up this morning from back in our studio days. And it demonstrates why friends and connections are so important. and why sport is such an important pathway in life.

Binar Futures basketball had joined us in the 100.9fm studio -
Way back when we were all so much younger, and Binar was just Binar and just starting work on the, now amazing and positive future :)

How is the connection part so important I hear you ask.

Well - yesterday while I was running some errands at the shops as I waited for Sue (Mrs Noelzy) to finish a nearby appointment the car battery went flat.

Cue the fantastic team nearby at, wait for it, Dezzy's Dry Cleaners in Midland, run by the family and friends of Binar.

Popped over, asked a cheeky question and thankfully got a jump start so I didn't have to bother the RAC or miss collecting Sue :)

Nowadays the 2 young men in this pic, are men in their own right, while the bloke behind the mic is an older wiser man, grateful for the chance to share just one more moment on the journey with a smile and friends - be they old or new.

It lifts the spirit and with that in mind I hope everyone has a great day, and a great weekend.

Softball, Football, Soccer, Rugby and Lacrosse finals are on all over the weekend, as I'm sure are other sports and we wish all teams taking part the best of luck.

Embrace your moments and those you share them with, who knows where, when or how you'll get another.

No matter what you might think of the "Wildcard" in the AFL that was a genuinely great match absolutely befitting a genuine Finals match.

As a Hawk, I was relatively neutral and just enjoyed a good old fashioned hit out. I am more nervous about next Thu vs a certain team but my Mum was a Pie (as are 2 sisters) while my old man was a passive Dog. (Did Nasho training with Ted)

Anyhow enough about that. What we do know for sure is that 3 of our Finals Tipping entrants were pretty happy about the result too as they moved straight into Week 2 - by just 2 points.

Luckily for all 4 of the incorrect punters tonight they get a second chance courtesy of having been involved with our regular full season tipping comp, a little way of saying thanks.

So, who else will survive the weekend and move into Week 2?
