What a great night at South East Centre for Contemporary Art for the opening of Karla Dickens: Recovery Mission and Helen Britton: The Story So Far.

Wonderful to be there with SEA board member Gabe Journey Jones, SECCA Gallery Director Jan Falsone, Bega Valley Shire Councillor Helen O’Neil, artist Karla Dickens and Australian Design Centre Executive Director Lisa Cahill.

We are incredibly fortunate to have a public gallery of SECCA’s calibre here in our region. Public galleries give us access to important, challenging and extraordinary work — and importantly, you can walk through the doors and experience it for free.

So go and see these shows.

And if you’re already a regular SECCA visitor, take someone with you. Especially someone who might never have been to the gallery before. Introduce a friend, neighbour, teenager or family member to the experience of walking into a public gallery and discovering something completely unexpected.

There’s also a fantastic program of talks, workshops and other public programs accompanying the exhibitions, so it’s worth checking out what’s coming up.

Karla Dickens: Recovery Mission and Helen Britton: The Story So Far are both well worth the visit. And while you’re there, maybe bring someone new through the doors with you. Congrats team SECCA

Now showing at Bundian Way Gallery: Tides of Expression

Three women. Three mediums. Three powerful expressions of culture, Country and identity.

Tides of Expression brings together the work of three exceptional Aboriginal artists:

▪️Sonya Naylor — a proud Gunaikurnai and Yuin woman working with traditional ochre painting
▪️Loanna Panton — a Dunghutti, Yuin and Palawa weaver, shell worker and adornment maker
▪️Amanda Close — a proud Minjungbul, Githabul and Widjabul Wia-bal contemporary artist

Through ochre, native grasses, shells, acrylics and pencil, these artists share stories of ancestry, belonging, family and enduring connection to Country.

Congratulations to Sonya, Loanna and Amanda on this beautiful exhibition—and to South East Arts’, Chelsy Atkins, who has done a wonderful job bringing the exhibition together and installing it at the gallery.

SPIRAL GALLERY AT BEGA STREETLIGHT FESTIVAL - Friday, 25 Sept 2026

will be open from 4-9pm during Bega Streetlight Festival, with its new exhibition, THREE WAYS, on display. The artists will also be in attendance!

Featuring oil paintings and pastels by Bega Valley artists Ray Hamilton, David Beck and Graeme Krake, THREE WAYS brings together three artists, three journeys and three distinct visions.

And be sure to wander down Church Street, where the Spiral Gallery artists will once again be creating their colourful chalk art following last year’s wonderful display!

A lovely day in Cooma catching up with our Snowy Monaro Regional Council representatives on the South East Arts Board (Clr Davis, SEA Chair Denise Ferris, Libby Litchfield and Sahra Tohow Dixon) and members of the SMRC Arts & Culture Subcommittee (Caroline Fox and Kate Brow). 💛

There’s plenty brewing for arts and culture across the Snowy Monaro. An exciting new addition to the region’s cultural calendar is quietly incubating for 2027 — watch this space — joining some much-loved events including Numeralla Folk Festival, 22 -24 January 2027, Lake Light Sculpture in Jindabyne over Easter, 26–29 March 2027, and the return of the Bombala Art Prize on 1 May.

Lots to look forward to — and lots of good people making things happen across the region. ❤️

Great commission opportunity to create a beautiful piece of work for the Eden Whale Museum.

Eden Killer Whale Museum invites local Aboriginal artists to submit an Expression of Interest for a significant commissioned artwork to feature in our new permanent exhibition, Hunters of the Sea: The Story of a Unique Bond.

We are seeking an original painting that explores, communicates and celebrates the unique, age-old relationship between the local Thaua people and the beowas (killer whales) of Twofold Bay.

The artwork will be integral to the exhibition’s foundation story and will help visitors understand this remarkable relationship through an authentic Aboriginal perspective.

Artists with a strong connection to culture, Country and community are encouraged to propose a creative response that reflects cultural knowledge, connection to place and the enduring significance of the beowas.

Responses are required by 14 September 2026.

Performing Lines has launched the new NSW Regional Producers Initiative — a fantastic professional development program designed to strengthen producing skills, build connections and invest in the people making creative work happen across regional NSW.

There are several opportunities on offer:
- Regional Producers Intensive — a five-day residency for six regional practitioners, including workshops, mentoring and attendance at Groundswell in Tathra on Djiringanj Country
- Professional Development Bursaries — five bursaries of up to $1,500 to support individual professional development
- Mentorship Program — tailored one-on-one mentoring with experienced industry professionals
- The Producer’s Toolkit — free online tools, templates, videos and resources launching later in 2026

The program is open to producers, self-producing artists, arts administrators, project coordinators and community organisers based in regional NSW.

If you're working behind the scenes to bring arts and cultural projects to life here in South East NSW, this could be a great opportunity to grow your skills, networks and practice.

The hugely popular Bega Streetlight Photography Exhibition is on again! This year's theme is "A Snapshot of Belonging".​
20 finalists will be paid $400 each and be included in the upcoming Bega Streetlight Festival Photography Exhibition throughout Carp Street shopfronts.

Entry is free and close at 5pm, Monday 24th August. Entry is now open at southeastarts.org.au/streetlight
