Finding confidence and motivation after loss ๐Ÿ’™

After experiencing the loss of a close family member, Elizabeth faced significant emotional and personal challenges that impacted her confidence and ability to return to work.

With support from her Employment Coach, Bonnie (pictured), at our Oaklands Park office (SA), Elizabeth's first step was connecting with wellbeing and allied health services, along with participating in a motivation and confidence-building workshop to help re-engage with her goals and future pathways.

Over time, Elizabeth regained confidence and found a clearer sense of direction. With previous qualifications and industry experience as a Support Worker, returning to the industry felt like a natural fit.

In just six months of being with us, Elizabeth successfully gained employment as a Support Worker with Claro Disability ServiceClaro Disability Servicesour help in getting me motivated to get back into the workforce, and I greatly appreciate your patience with me."

Congratulations, Elizabeth. We wish you all the best in your new role!

Building skills for a future in heavy industry ๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™‚๏ธ

With support from the Workskil Australia team, Adam has successfully secured full-time employment with Nyrstar Australia - Port Pirie (SA) after completing the Heavy Industry Multi-Skills (HIMS) Program.

Delivered in partnership with TAFE SA and Regional Development Australia, the program provided industry-focused training and practical pathways into employment. Throughout the course, Adam completed a Certificate II in Resources and Infrastructure Work Preparation, along with gaining valuable tickets and licences, including Confined Space, Forklift and Heavy Rigid vehicle licences.

To help remove barriers along the way, our team also provided support with fuel, PPE, required checks and ongoing mentoring throughout the program.

While completing the course and working towards his Heavy Rigid licence, Adam successfully secured a full-time role with local employer Nyrstar and is loving every minute ๐Ÿ™Œ

A great outcome made possible through strong local partnerships.

Celebrating Pride Month ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

Pride Month is a time to recognise, celebrate and support LGBTQIA+ communities, at work, at home, and everywhere in between.

At Workskil Australia, weโ€™re committed to creating safe, inclusive environments where every person feels respected and supported for who they are. Because when people can be themselves, they can truly thrive.

But while we celebrate progress, we also reflect on whatโ€™s at stake. Around the world, LGBTQIA+ rights are under threat, reminding us that the fight for equality, dignity, and safety is far from over.

We stand firmly in support of equity, inclusion, and human rights. This month and every month, letโ€™s continue to listen, learn, speak up and lead with pride.

Building confidence to support regional communities across SA ๐Ÿ’›

Staff from Port Augusta, Whyalla and Port Lincoln came together to complete Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training.

This training has equipped more of our team members to become accredited MHFAiders, helping them recognise, understand and respond to signs of mental health challenges while continuing to provide meaningful support to our customers and communities.

A great opportunity for our teams to learn together, strengthen their skills and continue building safe and supportive environments across the region ๐Ÿ‘

Earlier this year, William was struggling with motivation and feeling disconnected.

After connecting with our team in Modbury, SA, he began taking positive steps toward his future, including taking part in our Great Futures program.

Great Futures helps participants build confidence, explore career pathways and strengthen employability skills through engaging activities, career planning and practical learning experiences. William also attended Job Club, where he worked on his resume, cover letter, interview skills and job search techniques, while also gaining driving hours toward obtaining his licence.

In April, William successfully secured a place in the Launch into Work program, providing tailored training and a potential employment pathway as a Food Service Assistant with Uniting SA. Since starting, he has completed further accredited training, participated in job shadowing and workplace learning, and taken part in styling sessions to help prepare for employment.

Throughout this journey, Workskil Australia also supported William with transport assistance, medical assessments and police checks to help remove barriers along the way.

William has now completed his training units and job trial and is on track toward employment at the completion of the program ๐Ÿ™Œ

National Reconciliation Week may be over, but the conversations, connections and learning continue ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ’›โค๏ธ

Our teams and customers came together to participate in a range of activities that celebrated culture, encouraged reflection and strengthened understanding.

A few of our highlights:

๐ŸŒฟ Walk Strong into Tomorrow, a series of personal development workshops focused on confidence, growth and self-leadership.
๐ŸŒฟ Morning teas that provided an opportunity to reflect, share conversations and sample local First Nations foods.
๐ŸŒฟ A smoking ceremony that brought customers, employers and communities together in a spirit of connection and respect.
๐ŸŒฟ Walking Together Through Story, Culture & Creativity, where participants explored storytelling and symbolism before creating their own Dream/Rainbow Sticks.
๐ŸŒฟ A visit by our South Australian Regional Managers to Yitpi Yartapuultiku, meaning "Soul of Port Adelaide" in Kaurna language, highlighting the importance of strong community partnerships in creating culturally safe and inclusive spaces.
๐ŸŒฟ Creative workshops including ribbon and badge making, painting and other cultural craft activities that provided an opportunity to reflect, connect with others and explore culture through creativity.

At Workskil Australia, we remain โ€˜All Inโ€™ on reconciliation and we commit to listening, learning and walking together every day.

Today we honour the legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo โœŠ

Mabo Day recognises the historic High Court decision that overturned terra nullius and acknowledged the land rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It was a landmark moment in Australiaโ€™s history that reshaped how we understand land, ownership and justice.

Today is an opportunity to reflect on the significance of this decision, recognise the strength and determination of First Nations peoples, and continue learning about the importance of land rights and connection to culture and country.

We remain committed to supporting self-determination, cultural recognition and employment pathways grounded in respect, alongside strong community-led partnerships.
