Today marks the first day of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. At the A+ Abbey Solo Foundation, we are turning our focus to the profound ripple effect a diagnosis has on an entire family, and the hard numbers that reveal why we must do more.

Behind every statistic is a family whose world changes in a single second. In Australia, more than 1,000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer every single year, and cancer remains the leading cause of disease-related death among children. For the families navigating this path, the reality involves intense, years-long treatment schedules, heavy financial strains, and navigating an unimaginable emotional weight.

The impact doesn’t end when treatment stops. Up to two-thirds of survivors face significant, lifelong health challenges as a result of therapies designed for adult bodies being used on growing children. Behind these figures are parents carrying an invisible load, siblings sharing the fear, and children fighting battles no young person should ever have to face.

This September, we honor the resilience of families and the brave young lives touched by cancer. We fight for better, targeted treatments and a future where no family has to hear the words, “your child has cancer.”

A Special Partnership and a heartfelt thank you to Caroline Chisholm Catholic College for another wonderful opportunity to work together at their Musical Production Legally Blonde Jr. last weekend. A huge thank to Suzanne Mosca, the incredible staff and their student volunteers on Friday and Saturday. It was also a very special connection for our Foundation as Abbey's siblings, Jas and Josh once again took part in this year's production. A very special thank you to the AbStar Youth committee and our Abbey Solo Foundation volunteers. A special thank you to Pana Organic for generously donating chocolates for us to sell on the night. What a fantastic 2 days of volunteering, partnership and Giving Togetherness, all in support of children with cancer and their families. Well done and thank you to everyone who played a part. We are forever grateful for your continued support.
