Building Bridges Through Understanding

Sikh Volunteers Australia (SVA) was honoured to present a Sikh Way of Life session to the Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) South East Leadership Team.

A sincere thank you to Assistant Chief Fire Officer Gavin Rooney and MLO Frank Yaman for organising this valuable opportunity to strengthen community connections and cultural understanding.

As part of the Sikh tradition, all attendees were served Langar, the free community meal open to everyone.

Together, we continue building stronger and more inclusive communities.

This month’s grocery hamper donation to the Drug Court Melbourne and the County Court of Victoria has once again been delivered as part of Sikh Volunteers Australia’s ongoing commitment to supporting rehabilitation, dignity, and hope within our community.

Through this small effort, we stand beside individuals who are working hard to rebuild their lives and move towards a better future. We thank all supporters and donors whose compassion makes this initiative possible month after month.

Service to humanity is a shared responsibility, and together, even small acts of kindness can create meaningful change.

Together, we serve humanity.

Sometimes, community service continues not only because of volunteers in the front, but because of kind people who quietly step in behind the scenes.

On one of our busiest days, with an urgent requirement needing immediate attention, Lars responded at very short notice and completed the testing and tagging of Sikh Volunteers Australia food van cables — free of cost and without any hesitation.

In times like these, such generosity means more than words can express.

Lars, your willingness to help, your humble nature and your support for service to humanity is deeply appreciated.

Thank you for standing with us.

Sikh Volunteers Australia feels deeply honoured and grateful to have received a generous donation of $500 along with Basmati Rice from the wonderful members of the Country Women's Association Cranbourne Branch during a recent session held at their branch meeting, where we had the opportunity to share the journey and service activities of Sikh Volunteers Australia.

The CWA-Cranbourne Branch has always stood beside us with kindness, encouragement and practical support whenever service for the community has called. Their continued willingness to contribute towards our Emergency Food Relief efforts is a reflection of the beautiful spirit of humanity that binds communities together.

On behalf of all those who are served through these humble efforts, we extend our heartfelt thanks to the members of CWA Cranbourne Branch for believing in and supporting this service for humanity.

When hands join beyond backgrounds, faiths and organisations, service becomes stronger and hope reaches further.

With gratitude

Over the past few days, as we came together to celebrate the joyous occasion of Vaisakhi and also took humble steps towards the expansion of our Langwarrin site, Sikh Volunteers Australia has been truly honoured and blessed.

We had the privilege of welcoming representatives from all three levels of the Australian government, along with our respected first responders. Their presence, encouragement, and support mean a great deal to the wider community we serve and to us.

Moments like these remind us that seva (selfless service) brings everyone together—beyond roles, beyond titles—towards a shared vision of humanity and compassion.

With folded hands, we thank each one of you for standing with us.

During Harmony Week, which for us honestly felt like a whole month of Harmony celebrations, the SVA team has been out and about, meeting so many beautiful people across Victoria.

With Guru Sahib’s Blessings, we had the chance to visit and connect with Banum Warrik Primary School, Balla Balla Community Centre, Women in Rescue at Billabong Ranch Echuca, SES Echuca Unit, St Francis Xavier Primary School Frankston, and Woodleigh School

In all these interactions, it was never about us; it was about coming together. We were humbled to share Langar (free food) with everyone and have simple, open conversations about the Sikh way of life, tying turbans, and what they mean to us.

So many smiles, so many questions, so many genuine connections, it really reminds us that we are all one. We are just trying, in our small way, to build more bridges, create understanding, and serve with love.

Thank you to everyone who welcomed us so warmly. We are truly grateful.
