Our Contribution. Our Celebration.

As Botswana celebrates 60 years of Independence, we’re inviting Batswana in Victoria to come together in the spirit of Ipelegeng — self-reliance, collective responsibility and community ownership.

Our history has already shown us what is possible when we build together.

Through Motho le Motho Kgomo, Batswana contributed what they could to help create something greater than themselves.

That same spirit can live on here in Victoria.

Boipuso ke jwa rona — this is our celebration.

And your contribution does not have to look like anyone else’s.

Your kgomo could be:

And just like that… our very first BAVA Summit Forum is in the books. 🇧🇼🇦🇺💙

What started as an idea — bringing the conversations from our BAVA Connect & Grow Masterclasses into one room — became something pretty special.

We talked. We listened. We laughed. We challenged ideas. We shared experiences. And most importantly, we connected.

It felt exactly like what we hoped it could become: our little modern kgotla — a space for Batswana to gather, share stories and perspectives, learn from one another and strengthen the community we are building here in Victoria.

Malebo a menagane to everyone who came through, contributed to the conversation and brought such beautiful energy into the room. Some had already headed off by the time we remembered the group photo 😅 — but this is a little snapshot of the community that made the afternoon what it was.

Somewhere there in the post, you will see the committee after everyone had left, finally realising…

“Guys… that actually went really well!” 😁😂

Proud of this one. We are grateful. We continue to be amazed by your love and support.

There may have been some confusion in our previous posts suggesting he will be performing live from Botswana (via video)...

Dumelang batho bagarena,

At our recent meet and greet with the Botswana High Commissioner His Excellency Dr Jonathan Thuto Mahlanza here in Melbourne, an important idea was raised: creating a kgotla-style gathering for Batswana in Australia.

A space where we can come together, speak openly, listen to one another, share ideas and stories, build meaningful connections, and strengthen our diaspora community — so that together, we can create impact here in Australia and back home in Botswana.

As we reflected on this idea, we realised something beautiful:

The BAVA Summit Forum is exactly the kind of space this kgotla can become.

Our Summit Forum brings the conversations from our BAVA Connect & Grow Masterclasses into one room. It is an opportunity for community members, leaders, professionals, students and families to gather, exchange perspectives, learn from one another and imagine what we can build together.

This is more than a panel discussion.

It is the beginning of a stronger culture of community dialogue, connection and collective action.
