Not only is it hard for a child to be sick and be stuck in hospital, but harder when they are no longer a child but not yet an adult and they know what they are missing out on – like a Teenager! Rick spent 12 months in and out of hospital battling cancer, going into remission and then the cancer returning. Ricky lost his battle with cancer on 20th February 2015, one week after his 17th birthday. D
uring his journey, he noticed what others were going through and quite often thought about how little things could make a difference, especially to teenagers. He often wondered “Why me?” The only conclusion for us – was so that Ricky could help others. It was his vision, to help other teenagers in hospital battling cancer to make their stay a bit more bearable with things like internet so they could keep in touch with friends, things to do like watch movies and shows, have friends stay over for a night, etc. And although Ricky didn’t live to see his vision happen, his family and friends founded The Ricky Taylor Foundation Inc. to see Ricky’s vision become a reality. Our aim is to provide teenagers battling cancer with a “Kit”, as well as access to DVD players (with age appropriate movies!) and unlimited internet through the use of donated laptops. Additionally we aim to provide teens with any other items they need to make their stay during treatment as comfortable as possible. Many organisations help the family outside of the hospital but we want to concentrate on the teen while in hospital, because that’s when they need it most!
