Australian Sickle Cell Advocacy

Australian Sickle Cell Advocacy A patient organisation working to improve lives, shape policy, and end stigma around Sickle Cell Disease in Australia‼️ WHAT IS SICKLE CELL ANAEMIA?

An Australian initiative dedicated to people affected by Sickle Cell Disorder. A community-based Association devoted to being a voice for change to empower others. ABOUT
Australian Sickle Cell Advocacy Inc (ASCA) is a not for profit organisation, a registered charity that provides support to Australians that are impacted by sickle cell disease (SCD) countrywide. We serve as an advocacy group that

is aimed at increasing the awareness of the rising numbers of people affected by SCD in Australia, the burden on the affected families, early diagnosis and access to effective care and treatment. A National Organisation with our head office in Melbourne Australia, ASCA supports families from all over Australia. Contact us on email [email protected] or phone +61 1300148 824 or visit our website https://aussicklecelladvocacy.org. Follow us on all social media platforms search Australian Sickle Cell Advocacy Inc. Sickle cell disease is a group of disorders that affects haemoglobin, the molecule in red blood cells that delivers oxygen to cells throughout the body. People with this disorder have atypical haemoglobin molecules called haemoglobin S, which can distort red blood cells into a sickle, or crescent, shape. Signs and symptoms of sickle cell disease usually begin in early childhood. Characteristic features of this disorder include a low number of red blood cells (anaemia), repeated infections, and periodic episodes of pain. The severity of symptoms varies from person to person. Some people have mild symptoms, while others are frequently hospitalized for more serious complications. ( source http://ghr.nlm.nih.gov/condition/sickle-cell-disease). HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED
You can get involved in the awareness of SCD wherever you are. It's by bringing awareness in our communities that will empower governments to continue researching this condition so that one day a universal cure can be found. Currently there is no universal cure for SCD for all and the options available are very risky and limited. So, by educating one another we can learn how to cope and identify symptoms of getting into a sickle cell crisis for example. So, join us as we walk this journey together. Donate to our cause, we are a private not for organisation and your assistance will help us realise projects to assist people affected by Sickle Cell Disease.
