FMIA: A forum with the concern for the unity and diversity of Indonesia

Since 1950โ€™s many communities have been founded and participated in Melbourne, a multicultural city and a fertile field for the growth of many community groups. June this year a group of concerned Indonesian community member and observers founded a forum group called, Forum Masyarakat Indonesia di Australia, better known for

its abbreviation FMIA. The forum is registered as one of the community groups at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia. Founders of the group chooses forum as a form of discussion and starting point for their activities, particularly those connected with the issue of nationality and diversity of Indonesia. The group focuses on the creation of discussion and as a dialog space with the aim of eliminating the barrier of ethnicity and religious orientation. The organization was set up out of concern over recent social and political developments in Indonesia which tend to erode the spirit of unity in diversity and nationality. The momentum was created when a group of Indonesians in Melbourne rallied to protest against the negative reaction to the governor election results in Jakarta, followed by a widespread political campaign creating a stigma affecting certain ethnicity, religion, race and a particular social group. The first rally took place in Box Hill on 14 May 2017 as a reaction of court condemnation of Basuki Tjahaya Purnama, affectionately known as Ahok. Although the court ruling has been accepted as valid, the hate campaign against some religions and toward particular ethnicity and race continuously being used as a campaign method during the court proceeding which actually took the proceeding away from the natural justice. The second rally took place at the Federation Square on the eve of 15 May 2017 as a reaction from the even wider community who were concerned with the subsequent development in Indonesia that they felt could destroy the unity and diversity of Indonesia. Approximately 500 Indonesian community members from various background participated that night to voice out their concern. The rallies inspired many to keep on voicing their concern. Some who were initially field coordinators for the rallies met and decided to continue their fight via the establishment of a forum. The vision and mission of the forum have been decided on 30th May 2017:

To share information and build communication within each community member inter-faith, religion and culture. To foster cooperation with the various community and social group who have the same value in protecting the sovereignty, unity, and diversity of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as working together with the consulate of the Republic of Indonesia in Melbourne. To foster cooperation with other multi-culture community groups in Australia. On that day founders of the group also initiated discussion activities and dialog on issues of nationality economy, human rights and clean governance. A number of discussions have been held since then on the topics of nationality, the economy, human rights and government with clean governance

The Forum kicked off with a discussion with Noor Huda Ismail, an expert on terrorism on June 9, 2017, followed by a debate on corruption with Danang Widoyoko, a former Director of the Indonesian Corruption Watch, on July 1. We also held a discussion with Historian Bonnie Triyana on July 7. The most recent one was held on August 7, 2017, where we talked about the Indonesian economy with Mahendra Siregar, former Chairman of the Indonesian Investment Board. The discussion results will then uploaded in the group page โ€“https://www.facebook.com/forum.indonesia.australia/

Member of FMIA group also have been making an effort to attend many formal or informal meeting and continuously inviting expert and hosted dialog forum as well as fostering communication process with the various community group of Indonesian people in Melbourne with the concerned of the unity and sovereignty of Indonesia and uphold Pancasila. An E-mail can be sent to [email protected] to find more about the group and any future activity.

๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฉ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ Living in Australia in 2026? These new rules may quietly change your daily life.

Tapi Australia sering ubah aturan tanpa ribut-ribut.
Nggak ada pengumuman besar.

Tiba-tiba tagihan berubah.
Biaya daycare beda.

Lalu kita mikir:
โ€œEhโ€ฆ sejak kapan begini?โ€

Mulai 2026, beberapa aturan baru resmi berlaku.

Berikut perubahan penting 2026 ๐Ÿ‘‡
---
1๏ธโƒฃ Supermarket wajib terima uang tunai

Kalau usaha kecil, biasanya dikecualikan.

Kenapa?
Supaya orang tetap bisa pakai uang tunai. Terutama orang2 baru yang biasa bawa kas.

Contoh

---

2๏ธโƒฃ Obat PBS lebih murah

Apa yang berubah?
Harga maksimum obat resep PBS diturunkan.
Umumnya tidak lebih dari ยฑ $25 per obat.

Kenapa?
Bantu biaya hidup.

Contoh

---

3๏ธโƒฃ Subsidi daycare โ€“ โ€œ3 Day Guaranteeโ€

Apa yang berubah?
Setiap keluarga dapat minimal 3 hari daycare bersubsidi per dua minggu.

Kenapa?

---
4๏ธโƒฃ Bantuan listrik & gas sebagian berakhir

Apa yang berubah?
Sebagian diskon listrik/gas pemerintah berakhir 1 Januari 2026.

Artinya?
Tagihan bisa terasa lebih mahal.

Contoh

---

5๏ธโƒฃ

Kenapa?
Kurangi polusi & dukung energi bersih.

Contoh
Beli rumah baru?
Siap-siap masak pakai kompor listrik, bukan gas.

---

6๏ธโƒฃ Biaya paspor Australia naik

Apa yang berubah?
Biaya paspor baru dan perpanjangan naik sedikit.

Kenapa?
Penyesuaian inflasi.

Contoh

---
7๏ธโƒฃ Netflix, Disney, dll wajib banyak tayang lokal

Apa yang berubah?
Platform streaming wajib lebih banyak tayangkan konten buatan Australia.

Kenapa?
Dukung industri lokal & lapangan kerja.

Contoh

---

8๏ธโƒฃ Dukungan magang & kerja berubah

Kenapa?
Australia butuh banyak tenaga terampil (builder, electrician, plumber).

Contoh
Anak muda Indo-Aus ikut magang,
perusahaannya bisa dapat subsidi.

---

โœ… Ini perubahan rutin awal tahun saja, bukan kondisi darurat.

Tujuannya:
Meringankan biaya hidup
Melindungi konsumen
Dukung keluarga & pekerja

Yang paling terasa buat diaspora:

๐Ÿ’ต Pembayaran cash
๐Ÿ‘ถ Daycare
๐Ÿ’Š Obat
๐Ÿ  Rumah & energi

Semoga berguna gaez!

belum perlu jembatan baru,
hanya kemungkinan yang menunggu bak api kecil di tangan yg siap dinyalakan bila malam memintanya.

Pertemuan ini bukan simpul,
melainkan ambang.
