Bird survey at 8am and working bee at 10am on the 2nd Saturday of the month, except December and January.

Wanita is a 2.4kg Western Grey Kangaroo joey, orphaned after her mum was killed in a vehicle collision. She has been one of the stressiest little joeys I've ever had. She was drenched when she arrived, from frantically licking her arms and legs in an effort to cool herself down. Her little heart was beating so fast, that I feared she would succumb to capture myopathy. She was immediately given some va**um and fluids, pouched and hung in a portacot. An hour later she had launched herself out of the portacot and in her panic, she was literally crashing into the walls. More va**um was needed. This went on for a further 5 days. She calmed down once I held her so I ended up taking her to bed with me. Needless to say I have not had much sleep! Yesterday was the first day without va**um, and we've had no more panic attacks. Last night I had my first sleep without her. She stayed in her pouch for most of the night but at 6am I woke to her calling for mum, who is now me! Once in my arms, she went back to sleep. Baby steps with this little girl, and lots of love...

Yesterday was a nightmare, 11 ducklings, a baby tawny which I reunited last night, 8 possums and a kidnapped magpie came in.
,Between rescues and feeds, I didn't stop
This week I lost count of rescues, travelled 547 kms, spent nearly $600 on fuel and $96 on special feeds.If you can support the shelter it would be greatly appreciated,

Dum dum de-dum. The Wedding Bush is looking fabulous and about to venture down the aisle at the Wedding Bush Festival, attended by a crowd of silky tea tree (gaudium myrsinoides) and a flurry of hover flies and other critters. Join us at the Grange from 9am - 12pm, Saturday October 10
