A Record Breaking Event – 2025 “Links to Lupus” Annual Charity Golf Day
Lupus Victoria’s 7th Annual “Links to Lupus” Charity Golf Day held on 10 October at Flinders Golf Club was a record-breaking success. Despite the blustering and sometimes, very challenging, winds, we had 115 players on the course, smashing last year’s number of 85. We also had 23 additional lunch guests, making a total of 138 participating on the day. Our Guest Speaker, Professor Eric Morand, Head of Rheumatology at Monash Health, reported on the major developments in treatments that have occurred since Kim Jolly died in 1987. He also reported on Monash University/Monash Health’s research team who are working to develop a new drug to find an alternative to steroids. This drug would have the benefits of steroids for patients but without the debilitating side effects of them. (Vu Nguyen, Secretary of Lupus Victoria, has recently joined the consumer advisory committee on this gamechanging research team).
Lupus Victoria would like to thank the golfers, lunch guests and donors for the outstanding success of our major fundraising event for 2025. A very special thanks to Flinders Golf Club management and staff for their professionalism and organisational skills during the organisation of the event (both administratively, in the pro shop and in the kitchen); for the delicious lunch served on the day; and for delivering us a magnificently manicured course. And a special thanks to our major sponsor, Bosch, who donated some fabulous items for both our “live” and silent auctions. A huge thank you to the many businesses and individuals who kindly donated items for both the “live” auction and the silent auction; and thank you to our volunteers on the day – Lisa, Renae and Dianne – as without them the event would not have been the success it was. Finally, thank you to family, friends and the many people who kindly made donations to the Kim Jolly Lupus Research Fund (KJLRF). The event raised over $35,000 (note this amount includes donations to the KJLRF during the golf promotion period (1/4/25 to 30/10/25) and does not include $16,500 which was donated by individuals honouring the life of persons who passed away during the stated period). This means that total funds raised since inception for the KJLRF will be over $550,00. It's not too late to donate to help us meet our target of $600,000 in our endeavour to help to find a cure for Lupus, so please click on the link https://alumni-friends.monash.edu/ascendportal/s/mnhs (please make sure you click on “Kim Jolly Lupus Research Fund”).
