SBS News Lina Amani's fate is caught between the political realities of two countries.

The 25-year-old has been living a life in exile in Pakistan for the past five years, unable to return to her home in Afghanistan over fears she will be targeted for her work as a women's rights activist.

When the Taliban took power in 2021, enforcing draconian restrictions on women's rights and basic freedoms, Amani fled across the border to continue her campaigning.

But now she's facing a new threat: deportation.

Will be interesting.
360 Reports and diplomatic discussions surrounding a potential regional defense alignment have drawn widespread attention amid escalating geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Statements from regional leaders, particularly Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, have repeatedly called for Muslim-majority nations—including Egypt, Jordan, and Syria—to establish a unified front and diplomatic solidarity to counter what Ankara terms growing expansionist policies by Israel. Why not, all the T-Ban send their children, boys and girls, to study overseas?

Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai’s statement saying that he won’t send his daughter to school abroad has gone viral. The statement comes against the backdrop of Taliban’s ongoing ban on girls’ education beyond sixth grade in Afghanistan.

“As a father, it is my responsibility to provide them with the best education. The best one can have. Especially for girls. But as a citizen of Afghanistan, it is also my responsibility to have my own country ready for educating girls in our own environment, in our own culture, in our own historical perspective, in our own languages,” Karzai said. “If I take my daughter out abroad, it will mean we have given up on this right.”

Taliban’s ban has kept 2.4 million girls out of secondary schools and universities since 2021.

Progressive California state Senator Aisha Wahab has won a special election to the US House, becoming the first Afghan American elected to Congress.Wahab defeated fellow Democrat Melissa Hernandez in California’s 14th District, securing 53.1% (51,610 votes) to Hernandez’s 46.9% (45,598 votes). The race to replace Eric Swalwell drew heavy intervention from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).

AIPAC and its affiliated pro-Israel PACs spent more than $5–8 million attacking Wahab and boosting Hernandez after Wahab’s strong primary wins. Wahab has called Israel’s war in Gaza a “genocide” and supports ending US military aid to Israel.Hernandez, backed heavily by the Israel lobby, declined to call the Gaza campaign a genocide, affirming Israel’s “right to defend itself”

Wahab framed her victory as a rejection of outside money: “We stayed focused on the people.” Progressive and pro-Palestinian voices hailed the result as another setback for AIPAC’s influence in Democratic races.

Wahab will serve until January and face Hernandez again in November for a full term.

Pro-Israel groups are pressuring Australian governments and institutions to adopt the IHRA definition of antisemitism, which would prohibit legitimate criticism of Israel. Even Kenneth Stern, who drafted the definition, has warned that its official adoption is “a disaster” and that it will be weaponised against Pro-Palestinian speech.

We can’t let widespread adoption of this definition cement further censorship and repercussions for criticism of Israel.

So we're launching a petition we’ll deliver next month to governments and institutions around the country, calling on them to reject the IHRA definition. Please sign and share at the link in our bio!

The Afghan Affairs Male students in Kabul were reportedly stopped from entering school for not wearing a lungi or shamla, headwear associated with traditional religious dress.

Students were allegedly turned away and told to comply before returning to class.

Five years into Tali-ban rule, restrictions are not limited to women: even boys’ access to classrooms is increasingly tied to the regime’s prescribed appearance and dress‼️
