There has been NO ceasefire, ever.

Roya News English ‘Israeli’ forces shelled eastern areas of Gaza City's Shuja’iyya neighbourhood and launched overnight airstrikes on residential buildings across the Gaza Strip Thursday, according to local reports.

The strikes targeted several homes in Gaza City's al-Sabra and Shuja’iyya neighbourhoods, as well as the al-Shati area west of the city.

Several Palestinians were killed and others wounded in the attacks, according to the reports. Among those killed in a strike on a house in al-Sabra were a child, Hossam Abu Asr, and a woman, Intisar Abu Asr.

The attacks come amid continued violence despite a ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10, 2025. Reports of further airstrikes, artillery shelling and gunfire have raised questions over the implementation of the truce.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine 🇺🇦 Russia launched a cynical attack against Ukraine on October 7, firing around 70 missiles – many of them ballistic – along with Shahed drones. The attacks hit Kyiv and 12 regions, killing at least 19 people and injuring dozens.

In Pryluky, Chernihiv region, a Russian strike destroyed a five-storey residential building, killing 13 people, including three children. At least 43 people were injured, including children.

Nine apartment buildings were damaged in Dnipro and Kremenchuk. Two people were killed and 27 more injured. Two more people were killed in Kyiv and two in Oleksandriia.

Russian ballistic missiles remain one of the biggest threats. Ukraine urgently needs more air defence, including Patriot missiles, to protect lives.

21 years on, Afghan poet Nadia Anjuman remembered

Twenty-one years after the death of Afghan poet Nadia Anjuman, her work continues to draw attention to the restrictions and hardships faced by women in Afghanistan.

Anjuman died in Herat on Nov. 5, 2005, at the age of 25. Her death drew widespread attention in Afghanistan and among literary circles, with reports at the time linking her death to violence by her husband.

Born in Herat, Anjuman began writing poetry at a young age. During the Taliban's rule, she took part in the so-called Golden Needle sewing school, an informal literary circle where women gathered to study and discuss literature despite restrictions on education and public life.

Her first collection of poetry, Gul-e Dudi (Flower of Smoke), was published after her death and established her as one of Afghanistan's notable contemporary female poets.

Anjuman's poems often explored women's lives, loneliness, social constraints and emotional suffering. Her work has since been translated and published in several languages, keeping her name alive among Afghan readers and the wider literary community.

More than two decades after her death, Anjuman remains a remembered voice in Afghan literature, particularly for her poetry about the experiences of women living under social and political restrictions.

Her poems continue to be read as a record of a generation of Afghan women whose voices were often constrained by the society around them.

Wear a keffiyeh to your job at a Sydney public school, and you will be directed to take it off.

Wear one to your Year 12 formal, and you will be turned away at the door. Drive to Bunnings in it, and the riot squad will seal the street.

But an Irishman in a green scarf is not told to remove it. A Dutchman in an orange football jumper is not barred from his formal. A Frenchman in a beret does not get five police cars at the hardware store.

“The offence was being visibly Palestinian while the world watched Gaza burn.” Nobody alleged he had lectured a student on Gaza. Nobody produced a complaint.
