🌍 Meet the Team: Loreta

We’re excited to introduce Loreta, a Clinical Nurse Consultant in neurosurgery at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, joining Pangea’s 2026 Malawi education team.

Loreta has been on her nursing journey for 40 years and has specialised in neurosurgery since 1990. She remains fascinated by the brain and is looking forward to sharing her experience and learning alongside local clinicians in Malawi.

Her connection to Africa began in 1992, when she travelled there with the hope of volunteering. More than 30 years later, she is excited to return and contribute to Pangea’s work.

Outside of nursing, Loreta is a mum of four and loves swimming!

Welcome to the team, Loreta! đź’™

🌍 Meet the Team: Dr Rebecca

We’re excited to introduce Dr Rebecca, a junior general surgery registrar from Auckland, New Zealand, joining Pangea’s 2026 Malawi education team.
Rebecca has a strong background in medical education, having worked as a bioethics tutor, anatomy demonstrator and public health tutor at the University of Otago. She also incorporates teaching into her clinical work in Auckland.

This will be Rebecca’s first visit to Malawi, and she is looking forward to working alongside local clinicians and contributing to medical student education. Most of all, she’s excited for the opportunity to learn how medicine and surgery are practised in a different setting and to share knowledge along the way.

Outside of medicine, Rebecca enjoys live music, hiking, good food with friends and sunshine.

We’re thrilled to have you joining the team, Rebecca! 💙

We’re getting excited as we are just 6½ weeks away from beginning our seminars in Malawi! 🇲🇼

We’ve been overwhelmed by the level of interest in the seminars, with demand already exceeding the number of places available. If you’ve expressed interest or submitted an application, please stay tuned and wait for confirmation of your attendance. We’re grateful to be working alongside our local partners in Malawi, who are managing the application and registration process.

In the meantime, there’s still plenty happening behind the scenes as we prepare, and we’re looking forward to sharing the countdown with you. Over the coming weeks, we’ll also be introducing the members of our team and giving you a glimpse into the preparations ahead.

We can’t wait to take you along on the journey!
