Great science starts with great people. Great people leads to greater impact.

That's why we're embedding leadership training across our organisation.

Our professional services staff recently completed a six-month course, and already it’s having a tremendous impact. Teams that were once siloed are now solving problems together. People are connecting in ways that weren't happening before.

Now we're extending that same investment to our academic leaders like Dr Corey Giles.

A new leader who recently established his own lab, Corey is looking to redefine how we understand and treat cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and metabolic conditions. Using systems medicine, his team view human health as an interconnected network rather than isolated risk factors — and that shift in perspective is unlocking entirely new ways to predict, prevent and treat disease. Leadership will be critical to realising this vision.

Last Wednesday, we were pleased to welcome Lyn Bryce and Ross Jones from Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region, to present a generous cheque of $2,500 to our Cardiology Ward.

This contribution comes from the long-running Heartbeat Tournament, where local bowls clubs come together each year to raise funds in support of cardiac care at both Grampians Health Ballarat and St John of God Ballarat Hospital.

Since 1987, the tournament has raised an incredible $170,000, supporting heart health services across our community - a remarkable effort spanning nearly four decades.

We’re incredibly grateful for this ongoing support. Donations like this help us continue to enhance care, invest in equipment and support better outcomes for our patients close to home.

A big thank you to the Ballarat Highlands Bowls Region and everyone involved in the Heartbeat Tournament 🏆

The Ballarat Community Disability Expo held Wednesday April 29th, at Mars Sports was a great opportunity for Heartbeat Ballarat to promote the peer support, the exercise, and the social connection opportunities made available through Heartbeat Victoria locally.
Expo was an interesting half day with 32 varied stallholders and 207 attendees coming together to connect and learn. 350 Heartbeat walk time sheets and brochures were distributed along with heart stickers, and other small heart related novelties. (Thanks Leigh!).
Heartbeat Ballarat truly appreciated the opportunity to be a stallholder. And Alan, Leigh, and Barry for volunteering and operating the Heartbeat stall. Thanks also to President Mark V. for coordinating the printing of information leaflets and walk time sheets.
