First founded in 1926, the Altona Lifesaving Club has a long and proud history of safeguarding the beach and its visitors, providing critical lifesaving services, and fostering a sense of community.

From the archives, no date, no information. Looks like it might be from the 70s.

Here’s a fantastic vintage shot capturing the intensity, grit, and pure energy of beach sprinting competition back in the day.

From the focus on the runners' faces to the crowd cheering right along the sidelines, this photo highlights the incredible spirit and camaraderie that has always defined our surf life saving community.

Whether you're a regular or haven't stepped inside the club in years, this is the perfect opportunity to catch up with old friends, tour the clubhouse, and join in on the day’s activities.

This photo captures a Nipper group outside the Altona Life Saving Club about 2010, (extact date unknown) based on the participants' appearance and clothing. It shows many children wearing club rash vests and caps, alongside their age group managers or coaches.

Can you confirm the year and event for this photo? If you have a favorite recollection from your time in Nippers we'd love to hear from you.

Traveling back to 1980 and the Victorian Championships, where Michael Acocks and Frank Lococo took 3rd place in the Junior Men’s Belt & Reel event for Altona Life Saving Club.

Nothing beats classic lifesaving history—the old clubhouse, championship pennants, the President’s Board, vintage gear, and all the incredible memories built along the way.

Throwback to the 70s with this action packed shot from our archives!

From sometime in the 1970s you can see young lifesavers (Nippers) from various clubs sprinting down to the water, each cap representing a proud team competing in a beach event at a carnival. Those official swim caps definitely mean this was the real deal, not just a practice run!

If you look closely in the background, you can see a young lady rocking a classic pair of 'Staggers' styled jeans—true 70s fashion! Plus, it's great to see the iconic old Altona Pier in the distance.

Altona Life Saving Club: 'The Delman' Perpetual Trophy : Boys Under 14 Swimwade. 1959-1985.

Diving into our archives today and shining a spotlight on a special piece of our club’s history: ‘The Delman’ Perpetual Trophy for Boys Under 14 Swimwade.

This incredible trophy was awarded between 1959 and 1985, recognizing the dedication and talent of our young male swimmers in the ‘Swimwade’ event. We love the design, featuring a bronze figure on a bakerlite base with a bell-shaped cup and decorative handles.

Did you or someone you know win this prestigious award back in the day? We’d love to hear your stories! Tag any former clubmates who might remember this trophy or competed in the Boys Under 14 Swimwade during those years.

Today we have another great archival photo to share from the vault, dating back to the early 1960s and generously shared by Deanna McIntosh.

This vintage shot captures a Reel, Line & Rescue (R&R) team lined up on the sand at Port Melbourne. If you look closely in the background, you can spot a couple of classic local landmarks: the iconic old Port Melbourne gasworks structure and a vintage "Peters Ice Cream" sign!
