We’re delighted to share that Hearing Assistance Dog ‘Bruno’ has officially passed his Public Access Test and Sound Assessment! 🎉

This milestone marks the completion of Bruno’s training journey, meaning he’s now fully accredited and ready to support his recipient each and every day by alerting to important household sounds such as the doorbell, mobile phone, and emergency smoke alarm.

A heartfelt thank you to the Lions Club of Elizabeth Playford Inc, who provided ongoing support throughout Bruno’s follow-up period. Their involvement has been instrumental in helping Bruno settle into his new role with confidence. 🦁

Congratulations to Bruno, his recipient, and everyone who’s been part of his journey - from puppy carers and trainers to the Lions members who cheered him on. Another life-changing partnership made possible through community support. 🧡🐾

Lion Jeff represented our Carnegie Lions Club on a cool windy Thursday and presented a donation of $1500 to Vicki the CEO of KOGO in Caulfield.

Well done to KOGO and it’s many volunteers for the work they do.
Our Lions Club is proud to support you.

THE KOGO STORY;
It was a particularly cold winter in Melbourne in 2004 and there was a sudden resurgence in the popularity of knitting scarves. During this time, Ros Rogers had the idea of getting her friends and family to direct their knitting energy towards knitting for charity (after all how many scarves can one person wear?). This resulted in 180 scarves being knitted which were then distributed by the Emerald Hill Mission to those experiencing homelessness.

The following year Ros officially launched Knit One Give One (KOGO) as a not-for-profit organisation. Ros and her team of volunteer knitters then decided to knit scarves and beanies for disadvantaged children and these items were distributed to schools supported by the Ardoch Youth Foundation. Publicity in the local press led to an overwhelming response and before we knew it, KOGO had grown to have over 200 volunteer knitters and more than 2,000 finished items, now expanded to include clothing for babies and children, blankets and toys.

Recognising a widespread need for winter woollies for people undergoing hardship KOGO decided to team up with a number of community partner organisations to distribute the donated knitted items.

KOGO has continued to grow exponentially and developed into the major charity it is today. Each year, KOGO distributes over 100,000 items.

Members from the Lions Club of Carnegie, their partners, and Alice from the Lions Club of Brighton Victoria teamed up today to fire up their BBQ at Government House.

It was a fantastic day spent serving the community and celebrating the spirit of mateship in such a stunning setting. The grounds were open to the public, and it was wonderful to see so many people out enjoying the sunshine. Despite it being a very warm day, spirits were high and so much fun was had by all!
