THIS WEEKEND 17 & 18 October

Reminder to sketchers who signed up for this SOLD OUT workshop. Join Mark Poulier for two days exploring the techniques and decisions that go into a strong architectural sketch.

Saturday 17 October — Studio session

Start with the basics of pen and ink before working through proportion and perspective, rendering light on different surfaces, and representing both built and natural textures.

There will be practical exercises throughout the day, with Mark demonstrating approaches you can adapt to your own drawings.

Sunday 18 October — Drawing outdoors

Take the techniques outside and work from architecture on location, with the possibility of drawing the town hall. Mark will discuss how to select a subject, compose a drawing and develop it towards a finished piece.

The day will finish with a show-and-tell of the work produced.

You don't need an elaborate materials list. Bring an A4 sketchbook, pencil, eraser and a few ink pens — Sakura Microns 005, 01 and 03 are suggested.

Mark Poulier has a long-standing practice of drawing architecture locally and has taught workshops in New York. His online drawing course has reached a wide audience, and his daily architectural drawings are followed by approximately 300,000 people on Instagram.

If wet weather prevents the outdoor session, Day 2 will move to Sunday 25 October.
