The East Malvern RSL has developed a range of services and resources to support the community

The RSL is an independent organisation run by members, for members primarily to assist current and former service men and women and their dependants
The first official meeting of the East Malvern RSL Sub-Branch was held on May 23rd 1933 in the “great barn loft” at the rear of a house in Darling road owned by Mr David Hyslop which had been converted into a meeting area some time before for the use

of the 1st Malvern scout group. Circulars had been distributed in the local area to attract local servicemen; to the surprise of the provisional committee 120 eligible ex-servicemen attended the meeting with 65 subscriptions paid on the night a fantastic response for the committee and the RSL State President Mr Holland. The Club experienced continued to growth over the next 22 years establishing its current site in Stanley Grose Drive in 1955 and is still operating today from the same building which has had several extensions during the years to accommodate membership growth. In 1993 Mr Ted Merriman and Mr Harry Hubble complied the history of the club to commemorate it’s Diamond Jubilee, this document have been reproduced in Pdf format and can be viewed by activating the link below. Since 1993 the club has experienced economic challenges, however it continues to this day because of enduring belief in the RSL cause and the importance of the club to its members and the local community. The current Committee of Management has plans for a redevelopment of the club site which will include modernisation of the facilities and should be complete by the end of 2013. Lovers of jazz piano are in for a treat on Thursday the 14th of May when the Famous Jazz Piano Lunch returns to East Malvern RSL. Doors to the bistro open at 12.00 midday and music commences at 12.30 pm. At the grand piano you’ll hear sets from Kim Harris , David Allardice, Cath Connor , Peter McKay and Len Gregorian with guests Anita Harris vocals and Don Gula bass and Rob George drums. $10.00 entry and bookings not required.

The Famous Jazz Piano Lunch season opens for 2026 at East Malvern RSL on Thursday the 12th of March .

Doors will open at 12.00 midday with lunch available in the bistro with music from 12.30 pm until 3.30 with five sets of jazz piano .

At the grand piano will be : Kim Harris , Cath Connor, Hermann Schwaiger , David Allardice and Ken Cowan .

They will be joined by Don Gula on bass and Rob George on drums .
Special guest artist will be Cameron McIntyre on clarinet.

Entry is $10.00 and no bookings are required , you will be made very welcome .

A celebration of the life and music of Dave Hetherington will be held next Wednesday the 18th of February 2026 at the East Malvern RSL , 1 Stanley Grose Drive, East Malvern with music from 2.00 until 5.00 pm. All welcome and musicians are invited to bring their instruments for a blow.

The Final Jazz Piano Lunch For 2025 at East Malvern RSL :

The final Jazz Piano Lunch of the 2025 series will be held at East Malvern RSL on Thursday the 11th of December with music between 12.30 pm and 3.00 pm.
Doors to the bistro will open at 12.00 midday with meals & bar snacks available during the afternoon. $10.00 entry for music , bookings not required for meals or the music.

Such a privilege today for East Malvern RSL to host a musical tribute to the great musical legacy of Kenn Jones. Thanks to the musical tributes from a dream band of Ian Smith , Denis Ball, Rob Moffatt , Paul Williamson , Peter Mckay , John Cox , Leon Heale & Cal Duffy. And thanks to guests Patrick Miller , Doug Rawson , Kim Harris & Beverly Sheahan for their contributions.

The East Malvern RSL Christmas raffle has a special prize of two premium seats for the much loved Christmas Carol at the Comedy Theatre Melbourne at a date of your choosing. Tickets are one for $5.00 or three for $10.00 . Tickets available on Wednesdays through to Friday at Banjos Bistro or in the Members' Bar at the RSL Wednesdays through to Friday evening. REMEMBRANCE DAY FOR VETERANS AT EAST MALVERN RSL
11TH NOVEMBER 2025

We welcome all RSL members and the public who are interested in attending the veteran's Remembrance Day Service. Commencing at 10.30am with a short ceremony, a minute’s silence at 11.00am and followed by morning tea, admission of a gold coin donation, veterans are free.
