We spent some time in the kitchen over the long weekend making this vegan calendula soap, using calendula flowers from our herb garden at Hills Community Gardens . Look how beautifully vibrant the dried petals are!

Lots of people have been admiring this plant at Hills Community Gardens so we thought we would share with you what it is.
Meet globe artichoke.

Did you know that Globe artichoke is a perennial plant?
The flower bud is eaten as food before it flowers
The seeds are used in herbal medicine to support the liver.
Bees and other beneficial insects adore its vibrant purple flower.

We are growing our artichokes as food for the beneficial insects and shade for our other medicinal plants that do not like full sun.
We are also looking forward to harvesting the seeds and making medicine.
