Earlier today, Australian Industry Group Centre for Education and Training held a webinar titled “How will Jobs and Skills Councils (JSCs) build the right workforce for Australia?”. Sharon Robertson, CEO IBSA Group, who is responsible for establishing the Jobs and Skills Council for the manufacturing industry, spoke alongside Patrick Kidd, CEO of Finance Technology and Business Jobs and Skills Council, and Kimberley Davis, Group HR Manager from B&R Enclosures and Anne Younger, Ai Group Centre for Education and Training’s General Manager, Policy and Projects. The webinar discussed how the JSCs plan to address strategic workforce challenges and ensure qualifications are developed to meet the evolving needs of employers. The webinar emphasised the need for collaboration between the JSCs, state and territory governments, industry, training providers and other key stakeholders. When discussing improved alignment between VET and Higher Education, Sharon emphasised how the JSC model focuses on workforce, occupations and job roles and can be ‘system neutral’ in identifying how skills and knowledge can be attained.
