🖤💛❤️NAIDOC Week 2026 | 50 Years of Deadly | 5–12 July 🖤💛❤️

This NAIDOC Week, we’re celebrating the strength, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples — and KOGO crafters can be part of the celebration in the most heartfelt way.

How? 🖤💛❤️ Colour with purpose! KOGO’s community partners specifically request items in black, red, and yellow — the colours of the Aboriginal flag. Choose these shades and your handmade donation will carry even deeper meaning for those who will receive them.

We would love to be able to distribute the following handmade items during NAIDOC Week and hope you cast on and get your needles clicking:
🧸 Knitted or crocheted toys
🍼 Cot blankets
👶 Baby beanies
🧶 Baby cardigans
🛏️ Adult blankets
🧤Adult gloves
🧣Adult scarves
🧶 Adult beanies

An important update for our amazing KOGO community 🧶

Today we learned, like many of you, that Lincraft will be closing all of its physical stores across Australia and New Zealand after more than 80 years serving our creative communities. This news is bittersweet — Lincraft has been a beloved home for crafters, and a generous partner to KOGO for many years as a key network of drop-off points for your incredible handmade donations.

We want to reassure you — your knitting and crocheting matters more than ever. Over 120,000 handmade items reached vulnerable Australians last year thanks to you, and we are absolutely committed to making sure that continues.

Our team is already working hard to find new drop-off locations so your scarves, beanies, blankets and toys can keep flowing to the people who need them most. We’ll share updates as soon as new locations are confirmed. 💚

Could you help? We’d love to hear from you!

If you live near a current Lincraft store and could open your home, business, or community space as a KOGO drop-off point, please reach out to us at [email protected] — every new location means more warmth in more hands. 🤝

🧶❤️ Meet Dianne and Nikki — a mum and daughter duo whose love of knitting is now wrapping tiny babies in warmth and love.

Over the past five months, these two incredible women have been quietly clicking away with their needles, pouring their hearts into every stitch. The result? A truly remarkable first donation to KOGO:

🍼 160+ baby beanies
👣 23+ pairs of booties
🧥 23 cardigans
🌿 2 baby blankets

All lovingly handmade and delivered to a KOGO Victoria drop-off point.

When asked how they found KOGO, Nikki shared simply: “After a Facebook search of places to donate to, KOGO just seemed to be the place we chose.” And we are SO glad they did.

This is just the beginning of their KOGO journey — and somewhere out there, little ones will be snuggled up in the warmth that Dianne and Nikki created with their own hands.

Thank you both from the bottom of our hearts. You are what KOGO is all about. 💛

🧤 These hands need YOUR hands.

This beautiful pair of fingerless gloves was made by one of our incredible KOGO volunteers — and right now, we desperately need MORE just like them. Requests are piling up and we can’t fulfill them.

Cold hands don’t discriminate by age. That’s why we need gloves (full or fingerless) and mittens in ALL sizes:
🩷 Toddler & Children’s
🩷 Teen
🩷 Adult

All will be gratefully received and distributed to vulnerable Australians through our 400+ community partner organisations.

Pick up your needles or hook and cast on today…..please.

On Sunday we held our annual event ‘The Social Knitwork’. We welcomed familiar faces, regular attendees and many who travelled from afar. The speakers were inspiring and the lived experiences shared were a timely reminder as we head into winter of the impact KOGO donations make. Stay tuned for a recording of the event. We were also delighted to welcome a number of school-age knitters who shared their love and passion for creativity. Chelsea pictured in today’s post had the opportunity to meet our CEO Vicki and donate a crochet octopus. This week the octopus was included in a baby gift bag to be given to a mum and bub experiencing hardship. If you are a school looking to hear about all things KOGO please reach out to our community liaison Officer Andrea via our website: https://www.kogo.org.au/contact

This week in celebration of National Volunteer Week 2026 we came together, shared a cuppa and celebrated the invaluable contribution of our volunteers. Held at KOGO Hub Vicki acknowledged our ever growing KOGO community who give their time and talents Australia-wide whilst creating connection, purpose, and stronger communities. We also took the opportunity to celebrate a special birthday - Shirley’s 90th! Shirley (photographed alongside Vicki) reflected on her time at KOGO sharing it’s been a privilege to be involved from when Ros was CEO and now with Vicki at the helm.

This year’s Volunteer Week theme is “Your Year to Volunteer.” If you know someone looking to make a meaningful contribution to community, maybe they don’t knit or crochet and have been wondering how they can get involved at KOGO, we have a variety of roles we need help with. Please encourage them reach out here or email [email protected]
