In times of conflict, women and children bear the heaviest burdens. The suffering caused by war crosses all boundaries of faith and nationality, reminding us that our shared humanity must come first. Women are called to stand with and for one another, especially when violence tears communities apart. Around the world, we’ve also seen the language of “women’s liberation” used to justify military action—yet those same conflicts often leave women and girls displaced, traumatised, and at grave risk. On this International Women’s Day, we affirm that the child must matter more than the gun—no matter whose child, no matter whose gun.

We are very excited to announce that acclaimed author Alice Pung will be speaking at the 2026 Stronger Together Palm Sunday event!

Alice is a highly respected Australian writer, editor, and lawyer. She is best known for her award-winning memoir Unpolished Gem and the essential anthology Growing Up Asian in Australia. Her work is celebrated for its deep focus on identity, belonging, and the migrant experience, bringing a powerful perspective on how we build inclusive communities. Alice reminds us that our strength lies in our compassion:

"We are stronger together when we recognise that exclusion and fear do not make more robust and thriving communities, and when we understand that inclusion and generosity are our greatest strengths."

Christmas, at its heart, is a story about the refugee.

A family on the move. A mother protecting her child. A knock on a door that might not open. A night spent outside of comfort and certainty. The outcast. The hunted. The lonely ones. The people who are told they don’t belong—until love insists otherwise.

Today, may we take a moment to reflect on the impact of our actions:
the words we choose, the policies we accept, the neighbours we ignore, the hands we hold.
May we practice kindness that is not performative, but deliberate. Kindness that becomes shelter. Kindness that becomes safety. Kindness that becomes courage.

And if you are struggling through this season—if you feel raw, grief-heavy, alone, or simply tired—please know: you are seen. You are not failing because you’re hurting. There is love in community, strength in care, and dignity in recognising each other’s humanity. Reach out to someone. Let yourself be held, even gently, even briefly.

Mums4Refugees is taking a short break for healing, community care, and rest.
We’ll be back on Boxing Day.

Until then: take care of your body, your heart, and each other.
With love and solidarity,
Mums4Refugees
