Karina Kayser has departed for the eternal abode.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.”
Karina studied in Melbourne during 2015–2016. While living in Melbourne, she also hosted the South Asian Festival on behalf of our ABCx.

It is truly heartbreaking to accept that such a lively and cheerful young woman has left us so soon.

May Allah grant her Jannatul Ferdous and give her family the strength to bear this immense loss. Ameen.

What an incredible turnout — 12,000 attendees!! ❤️

South Asian Festival 2026 at Federation Square was truly a vibrant celebration of culture, diversity, music, and community spirit.

Nearly 12,000 people joined us throughout the day, and we are deeply grateful for the overwhelming love and support from the community, the Australian mainstream audience, and the media coverage including Channel 7 live streaming from the event.

A huge thank you to all performers, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and attendees — together, we made this event unforgettable!

Thank you once again for reaching this amazing milestone together! ❤️

শুভ নববর্ষ!
মঙ্গল ও আনন্দময় হোক বঙ্গাব্দ ১৪৩২।

As many of you know, we have been proudly hosting the South Asian Festival at Birrarung Marr, Melbourne every year since 2016 — without missing a single year!
Even during the challenging times of COVID, we kept the spirit alive through an online celebration.

Today, as we welcome the Bengali New Year and embrace the vibrance of this secular and inclusive festival, we feel sad and sorry as we had to cancel this year event due to ongoing construction work at our venue.

We promise to return stronger and bigger in 2026!

🗓️ Mark your calendars: 26 April 2026
Stay connected, stay inspired — and until then, keep the spirit of unity and celebration alive.

Happy New Year once again!
শুভ নববর্ষ!

Dear Community members,

We regret to inform you that we have to cancel this year's South Asian Festival (Boishakhi Mela) as our venue Birrarung Marr is still unavailable in April 2025. The Greenline Project is underway with major construction activities scheduled to start from mid-March 2025 until late 2025. Further information can be found here - https://www.melbourne.vic.gov.au/greenline-project.

We also explored Docklands as an alternative, but due to No-Go Zones at New Quay Promenade (affected by rotting piles) and gas pipeline restrictions along Harbour Esplanade, it is not feasible for a large-scale setup.

We are committed to maintaining the quality of our festival, and without a suitable venue, we have no choice but to cancel this year’s event. We understand this is disappointing and heartbreaking, as so many of you eagerly await this flagship celebration each year.

However, we promise to return in 2026—bigger and better! With your patience, support, and enthusiasm, we will make next year’s festival even more spectacular.

Thank you for your understanding. Together, we will make it happen!

Best Regards,
South Asian Festival Committee
