On paying tribute to the strength, resilience and courage of the Indigenous women who've lived, loved and lost on this land.
This past weekend, I was immensely blessed to finally visit Uluru and sit and reflect in the magnificence of Uluru and Kata Tjuta.
As we heard from the Anangu people share their culture, the story of Kinuya woman who avenged the death of her nephew resonated more intensely.
A woman who felt immense grief and loss, was mocked for showing her grief and then rises to avenge her loss..... It resonated because even in 2022 - people STILL paint anger and frustration in a woman as irrational, her response as reactive and punitive, her actions as destructive.
In 2022 - This is no longer acceptable.... In 2022, my sisters - demand respect and demand opportunity. Nothing less will do.

Salute to the courage Alex Bunton has shown to speak about the violence she suffered at the hands of a partner.
Professional success, health, fitness and social standing DO NOT insulate us from violence.
There are always early signs and as colleagues, family, friends and as bystanders - we can ALL make a difference and take a stand!

From the outside, Opals star Alex Bunton looked like she had it all.

It cannot get much worse - really it cannot.
Words fail me..... a young 19 year old woman, her dreams, hopes and life snatched away in the most horrific manner. I cannot even begin to imagine what her family, her parents and friends would be going thru.
THIS HAS TO STOP.
In the first 31 days of 2022 we have seen unspeakable levels of violence against women and children right here in Australia.
- A 6 year old Vanessa and her mother Poonam Sharma are stabbed to death in their home. The mother, seriously injured makes a frantic attempt to get help.
- 9 year old Charlise Mutten is believed to have been killed by her mother's fiancé.
- A 3 month old baby was discovered in a freezer in NSW earlier today.
- A father killed his 4 and 6 year old children in Huntingdale
- And today, 19 YO Aminah Hayat....

A 20-year-old man is in custody after a woman’s body and chemicals were found in a North Parramatta unit bathroom following reports of a domestic violence incident.

Yet again a man uses violence to terrify and maim and kill his partner and his children.
I look at the photo and I am heartbroken - the picture shows a loving mum, a beautiful family and yet again we see that horrors lie behind smiles.
Her name means the full moon in Hindi, she was a dental nurse, a devoted mother.
As a community and a society we need to lift the silence - when we see something, we need to say something.

RIP Poonam
For her young child and her family, life will never, ever be ok.

Friends gathered outside the Mill Park home on Friday remembered dental nurse Poonam Sharma, 39, as a “good mum” to her daughters Vanessa, 6, and Angela, 10.

A Sunday well-spent!
An open and candid discussion about family violence in our communities, why people are still hesitant to talk about it, why many don't seek support early and how can people in the community make a difference.
Thank you to Australia Tamil TV for creating this opportunity :)

18 months into this pandemic and it pains me to see that somehow our leaders have managed to assign blame - publicly on migrants!
Somehow, higher crime rates, higher home prices, overcrowding and now an outbreak that was caused by the lax infection control monitoring has been heaped on migrant communities.

Earlier this year an article caught my eye and I bookmarked it to read later. As has happened multiple times before, I didn't get to it until earlier this week.

Coercive control is an insiduous form of violence and its good to see media now focusing on how this presents in culturally diverse communities. It was good to speak with Amy Chien Yu Wang about this issue.

Anti-domestic violence campaigners are calling for criminalising controlling behaviours that often prove key precursors to physical violence in a relationship. But, multicultural support workers say gaps in legislation and services are failing migrant victims on temporary visas.
