Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation raises funds for life-saving cancer research. People with cancer and their loved ones are at the heart of everything we do.

This is why we are determined to give every person with cancer the best possible chance of survival. We take action by raising funds for life-saving cancer research at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre - Australia’s only public hospital solely dedicated to cancer, and the home of Australia’s largest cancer research group. By donating to the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation, you play a crucial role in advancing the search for cancer cures. While Peter Mac’s internationally recognised cancer researchers have success in securing competitive project grants, these grants rarely fund new innovative projects or the state-of-the-art technologies and resources needed to undertake research projects. Whether you make a donation, include us in your Will, support us with a regular monthly gift, or fundraise for us through events like Unite to Fight Cancer your donation will help give some of the brightest minds in cancer research the resources and specialised technologies they need to make important new cancer discoveries. You will also help meet the most pressing research needs identified by Peter Mac’s most senior leaders. Because Peter Mac’s 700 laboratory researchers are embedded within the hospital environment, they are uniquely placed to translate research discoveries as quickly as possible into real treatments for cancer patients. Together, we can find new and better ways to prevent, detect and treat cancers. If you would like to donate or fundraise, please visit the Peter MacCallum Cancer Foundation website to find out how you can make a difference and give new hope to people affected by cancer.

What a weekend, Team Peter Mac! 💜

Thank you to every runner, walker and fundraiser who took on the Melbourne Marathon Festival for Peter Mac. You laced up, you showed up, and you raised an incredible $250,000 (and counting!) for cancer research and care.

That’s more than a number. It’s the specialised tools and technology our researchers need to make new discoveries, and the hope that comes with them for patients and families.

Whether you ran 42km or 5km, or cheered from the sidelines, you are a vital part of the Peter Mac community. We’re so proud of you, and so grateful.

Thank you for running with us 🏅

“It’s an amazing feeling I can’t really put into words without crying.”

Testicular cancer twice. 9 weeks of chemo. 700 metres into his first run after treatment and Andrew was breathless.

Then, he ran at the Brighton Beach Marathon 🏃‍♂️

Your support funds the research and care that makes comebacks like his possible.

"Remember to always hold close those dear to you" – Mardi, David’s wife

When cancer reaches the brain, families are often fighting for more time. For David and his family, that time meant precious moments as a unit.

In 2023, tests revealed a tumour wrapped around David’s larynx – he had throat cancer. Following radiation and chemotherapy, images showed his throat to be "as clean as a whistle". But by that Christmas, a cough started. New scans revealed five tumours in David's brain.

With an 18-month prognosis, David and his family decided to travel to New Zealand, one last time together.

Sadly, David passed away peacefully a couple of months ago, surrounded by those who loved him most.

Throughout his cancer journey, David remained grateful for cancer research.

💬 As Mardi, David's wife, says: “Treatment has progressed in leaps and bounds in the last decade. A lot of what David had didn’t exist 5 years ago."

💜 With your support, Peter Mac researchers can work towards the breakthroughs that give families more time, and more life together.

Today is World Cancer Research Day. A day to recognise the researchers working behind the scenes to change what’s possible for cancer patients. Dr Emma is one of them.

Dr Emma is a clinician-researcher at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre working at the intersection of patient care and the lab. She sees patients living with endocrine cancers and spends her research time chasing the next breakthrough that could change their outcomes.

This is exactly the kind of work your donation makes possible-giving researchers the tools and time they need for discoveries that don’t come from clinical grants alone.

Watch Dr Emma introduce her research below, and if you’re able, consider supporting work like this today.

For people facing brain cancer, the blood–brain barrier is one of the biggest obstacles standing in the way of better treatment. At Peter Mac, Professor Ben Hogan and his team are working to change that.

Professor Hogan’s lab is focused on better understanding the barrier, and finding clever new ways to help therapies cross it.

The aim is to understand the brain’s natural defences well enough to find safe, targeted ways to let treatment molecules through when they are needed most.

💬 “For lots of different types of brain cancer where the blood–brain barrier is intact, it's a major hurdle to getting drugs in delivering them to the brain. If we could safely open that barrier, it would hugely improve outcomes,” says Prof Hogan.

💜 If the team can find safe new ways through, the impact could be profound: more possibilities for researchers, more options for clinicians, and more hope for people facing some of the hardest-to-treat cancers. Your help can accelerate ground-breaking work like this.

A gift left in a Will isn’t about how much you have. It’s about what you want to last.

This Include a Charity Week, we are thinking about the quiet power of that decision. Last year, gifts left for Peter Mac in Wills funded groundbreaking research and discoveries that could change what a cancer diagnosis means.

If leaving a gift for Peter Mac in your Will is something you’ve thought about, this week is a good time to make it real. Free, professional support is available to get you started. Because the research that saves someone in ten years starts with a decision made today.

Get creative for cancer research! ✅

This year, we’re inviting the Peter Mac community to get creative for cancer research and design a new greeting card that celebrates the holiday season.

Our previous artwork for the Foundation's annual greeting card was kindly submitted by two-year-old Jamie, who painted freely on paper, and his dad Kyle, a haematology nurse at Peter Mac, who transformed Jamie’s painting into a holiday scene.

This is a special opportunity to see your artwork brought to life, all while playing a big role in helping Peter Mac express thanks and gratitude to our wonderful supporters.

The competition is open to everyone who has a personal connection to Peter Mac including patients, loved ones, supporters, and of course staff.

To find out more and submit your entry visit https://foundation.petermac.org/greeting-card-26

*Competition ends Friday, 4th September
