Women for Women in Africa BUILDING CAPACITY
DRIVING CHANGE and PROMOTING EQUITY. Where the sheer desperation for food and water leads to crime, prostitution, drugs and violence.

Women for Women in Africa (WFWIA) is an Australian-based, volunteer-run charity creating lasting change in Kibera—Africa’s largest slum—through the power of education and training. Imagine growing up in a place where over one million people live in an area that is 630 acres (the size of 10 MCG fields), where families of up to 10 people are crammed in to mud and tin huts with no running water, elec

tricity or any type of a sewerage system. This place is called Kibera, one of Africa’s largest slums on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya. You would imagine that in Kibera hopelessness prevails above all else in the minds of its inhabitants....but this is not the case. These are people who are full of the most heartwarming hope, strength and determination to do all they can do, and not only for themselves, but for their whole family, as they strive to move away from the slums of Kibera. People who, if they could just be offered that initial helping hand would make their own difference to the world. WFWIA provides this hand. As the organisation continues the grow it currently has 260 sponsored students who are guaranteed a primary, secondary and post secondary education, a growing number of students who are able to attend a newly built informal school on the edge of the slum; women from the slums are receiving skills training and hundreds of men, women and children have been assisted with medical care. WFWIA believes that it is not about pity, it’s about making a difference. For information on how to support this cause please go to the website or contact the organisations wonderful creator Marguerite Ryan at [email protected] or Michael Buckley at [email protected]. WFWIA is a Member of ACFID- a self-regulating body of Australian NFPs. We abide by the ACFID Code of Conduct, found at http://www.acfid.asn.au/code-of-conduct/code-of-conduct .

For young people in Kibera, gaining access to technology provides a step towards independence and future work.

Through our ICT Youth Program, students build digital skills for study, work and everyday life.

However, as demand continues to grow, this important program relies on generous supporters to help keep young people learning.

Please donate to our Safe, Skilled and Strong Appeal (Link in comments).

Your gift can help unlock a brighter future for young people in Kibera.

Your support during our Give Before June 30 Appeal will help fund three vital programs: the Emergency Fund, Medical Fund, and our ICT Youth Program.

The ICT Youth Program empowers young people with the digital skills, confidence, and practical experience needed to successfully transition from high school to tertiary education and beyond.

Our students develop valuable skills in computer literacy, graphic design, coding, web development, online research, digital creativity, communication, and workplace readiness.

More than just a training program, it opens doors for young people who have limited access to technology and digital learning opportunities, helping bridge the digital divide and create pathways to future education and employment.

Right now in Kibera, ten thousand people are facing sudden displacement.

With little notice, homes have been lost and stability has disappeared overnight as part of a larger redevelopment plan.

For the women we support through the WkW Centre, this moment is not just a crisis, it is a test of everything they have worked so hard to build.

At Women for Women in Africa, we are responding with urgency, care, and a deep commitment to ensuring that progress is not lost.

In response, our 2026 ‘Give before June 30 Appeal’ will be targeted at supporting those impacted. Our goal is to raise $50,000 to support the women, children and families at the WkW Centre, providing immediate relief and long-term opportunity where it’s needed most.

Every dollar donated is tax deductible will go directly to support the:
Emergency Fund – $20,000
Supporting families who have been displaced and are in urgent need of stability, safety, and basic essentials.

Medical Fund – $10,000
Ensuring women and children can access critical healthcare when they need it most.

ICT Program – $20,000
Equipping the next generation and women rebuilding their lives with the digital skills to create sustainable futures.

The community in Kibera needs urgent support. If you’ve been waiting for a moment to give, this is it.

Your support today will have an immediate and lasting impact.

It has been such a privilege to attend the Women Deliver 2026 Conference and join women from all over the world working towards our shared agenda of gender equity.
It has been a joy for WFWIA to share space, listen and talk with incredible, brave women and organisations doing such powerful, important work. Work that translates into impact.

Life in the NGO space can be challenging and a lonely place at times, however this conference is a global community that has filled my heart and soul.

During this conference through extensive consultation, we have now developed the Melbourne declaration of Gender Equity. What a privilege to be a part of this feminist movement. Change is coming.
