That's not a wrap 🌯, it's curry πŸ₯˜! You might think, but this is the end of Food U See campaign. It has been an amazing learning journey for me, and I hope you have picked up something useful along the way too! Personally, I love food and cooking. While there won't be as many updates on this account, I would love to occasionally drop by to share what I'm cooking and my efforts to curb food waste in my kitchen. Thank you for your support, and I hope you'll stick around 😊
πŸ₯• On another note, Japanese curry blocks are one of the best things to keep in your cupboard - delicious and perfect for using up a medley of veggies at the end of the week in just 15 minutes!

Besides what you can do in your kitchen to reduce food waste, remember that you can volunteer your time and donate to charities and NGOs that rescue excess food and bring it to those in need 🍳πŸ₯¬ Be a part of a fair, healthy, and sustainable food system. Here are a few organizations to start with, and don’t forget to check your local community for more volunteer opportunities.

"Food you see is food you eat!" πŸ‘€ Here are some food storage tips to minimize waste at home:
πŸ₯• Use clear containers for storing food in the fridge and pantry so you can easily spot what you have
πŸ₯• Keep fruit in a bowl or tray on the counter where you can see and eat them
πŸ₯• Avoid stocking up too much on shelf-stable itemsβ€”stuff shoved to the back of the cupboard will likely be forgotten.

Did you know many wild-caught fish are snap frozen at sea and slowly thawed to be served as "fresh" in restaurants? When cooking at home, frozen fish can be a better option than "fresh". Stored in your freezer for 3-8 months and when you're ready to cook, thaw it slowly in the fridge or run it under cold water if you're in a rush. πŸŸβ„οΈ

Got leftover rotisserie chicken? Don't let it go to waste! πŸ— Transform it into a variety of delicious meals. Shred the tender meat for hearty sandwiches or wraps, or toss it into pasta dishes, stir-fries, or fried rice for a satisfying meal with a twist. And don't forget about the carcass – simmer it to make a rich, flavorful stock that adds depth to soups and noodle dishes.

Here's a potato pro-tip: while those washed potatoes might look pristine, the 'uglier' brushed ones actually have a longer shelf life in your kitchen! πŸ₯” Why? The dirt on brushed potatoes forms a natural barrier against light and excess moisture, helping them stay fresh for longer. So, next time you're at the market, don't shy away from the less polished spuds – they might just outlast the rest!

When buying fresh pork, look for firm, pink meat with a slight marbling of fat for juiciness and flavour. Avoid any cuts with an off odour or slimy texture. Choose fresh cuts wisely and freeze promptly if not using right away. In the fridge, pork stays fresh for 3-5 days, while frozen pork can last 6-12 months.
