Join us for a culture and language sharing workshop focusing on pre colonial script, folklore and culture. We will unpack Baybayin script, discuss the effects of colonization on our culture and practice our Filipino language skills by reading and discussing old stories.

This is suited for all levels of Filipino, including new learners.

Anakbayan Melbourne along with the Filipino community and other national democratic mass organisations here in Melbourne/Naarm held a demons in commemoration of the 54th anniversary of the martial law declaration in the Philippines. Anakbayan joins the calls of the Filipino people in holding the rotten and corrupt US-Marcos Jr regime accountable and reject the sham Pax Silica Initiative.

Anakbayan Melbourne calls on the Filipino youth to learn about Philippine society and the root causes that have forced Filipino youth and their migrant families to leave the country. We must continue to strengthen the revolutionary culture and history that have forged our Filipino identity by actively participating in the national democratic struggle of the Filipino people for genuine liberation and democracy.

Join us this Sunday 20th for two rallies which are part of national days of action. At 2pm we will be at the Anti-AUKUS action at the US Consulate calling for an end of military ties between the USA and so called "Australia". At 4pm we will be commemorating the victims of Martial Law in the Philippines, and holding a rally calling to call for an end of the corrupt and rotten rule of US-Marcos Jr.

Anakbayan Melbourne will be having a contingent at the Students Against Pauline Hanson Rally.

Anakbayan Melbourne vehemently condemns the growing anti-migrant rhetoric and statements strengthened by Pauline Hanson and One Nation. Filipino migrants and the Filipino youth overseas are increasingly affected by these racist and fascist attacks in many forms. Australia’s neo-liberal policies continues to employ migrants including the Filipino people as cheap labour while having little to no avenue in addressing the issues of abuse and exploitation in the workplace. All the while the Philippine government under the US-Marcos Jr regime continues to sell the Filipino people as its biggest export in order to aid the backwards and failing economy of the Philippines through the Labour Export Policy (LEP). Meanwhile, Filipino migrants continue to face discrimination, abuse, and exploitation overseas without necessary support from the Philippine consulate.

As Filipino youth in the diaspora, we must link our struggles here in so-called Australia to the root causes of our migration back home. We must relentlessly advance the anti-fascist, anti-racist, and anti-imperialist struggle!

Join the Filipino contingent this Thursday, September 17, at 1PM in front of State Library and amplify the calls of Filipino migrants and our families back home!

On the upcoming 54th Anniversary of Martial law declaration in the Philippines and the 1st anniversary of the September 21 anti-corruption protests, Anakbayan Melbourne will be joining other national democratic mass organisations here in Naarm/Melbourne in continuing the struggle against corruption and plunder. As Filipino youth overseas, we must remain linked with the struggles back home and join the mass movement of the Filipino people that calls for justice and accountability against the rotten and corrupt US-Marcos Jr regime, we must reject the sham Pax Silica Initiative and advance our calls for genuine land reform and national industries for the broad majority of the Filipino people!

Anakbayan Melbourne along with other national democratic mass organisations joined the Global Anti Imperialist Rally and Close Pine Gap rally in solidarity with the struggle of the peoples of the world against US imperialism and its lackeys.

Anakbayan Melbourne also condemns the “US-Philippines Friendship Day” marked on the 80th anniversary of the fake independence granted by the US imperialist in the Philippines. The US-Marcos Jr regime continues to sell the Philippines under the Pax Silica Initiative selling critical minerals to build AI semi conductors used for building war machineries for inter-imperialist wars.

Members of Anakbayan Melbourne North Chapter oppose the Kasangga military war exercises carried out in the Philippines alongside the so-called Australian Defense Force. These month long exercises wrapped up yesterday.

First held in 2024, these annual drills are being held on Filipino soil, damaging land, water and threatening lives of the remote communities.

These war exercises are being used to strengthen the military alliance between the Australian and Philippine government, costing millions of dollars, while the broad majority of the Filipino people are suffering worsening conditions, as public funds for their basic needs are being funnelled into U.S. led militarisation in the Asia Pacific.

The puppet government chooses to waste millions on warfare to serve the interests of U.S. imperialism, while also repressing the struggle of the Filipino people in fighting for their basic demands. The partnering of the Australian Defence Force with the Armed Forces of the Philippines has carried out countless massacres of communities in the sake of continuing its domination in countries like the Philippines amidst imperialist competition for hegemony between the US and China.

The public funds that are supposed to be used for basic services are continuously being spent on the national security budget that increases every year. Due to this, over 60,000 Filipino children die every year before their 5th birthday, many deaths attributed to lack of access to nutrition, vaccination and health services. Whilst funding is ripped from the healthcare sector, it used for war exercise, including live fire drills, placement and detonation of explosive charges and weapons training.

The Filipino youth in Anakbayan Melbourne North, along with the toiling masses in the Philippines and the diaspora heavily oppose the ongoing warmongering of the US-Marcos Jr regime and its imperialist allies such as the Australian government, and calls on the rest of the Filipino people to continue the fight for self-determination and national democracy.

End the militarization of the Philippines and no to Kasangga!
