TreeProject TreeProject is a Victorian not-for-profit dedicated to revegetating our land — one seedling at a time.

Join us in restoring ecosystems, supporting farmers, and planting a greener future. TreeProject acknowledges Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the first inhabitants and traditional custodians of the lands where we live, learn and work to return healthy, sustainable indigenous ecosystems to the land. TreeProject would like to expand its network of enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer growers to propagate native seedlings that will be used to put endemic trees back on the land. These seedlings will be used to establish wildlife corridors, lower the water table and improve our water quality, help tackle salinity and soil erosion and provide shelter for stock on rural land.

We have some exciting news to share!

TreeProject has won the Environmental Volunteer Group Award at the 2026 Victorian Landcare Awards! 🏆🌱

Presented as part of the 40 Years of Landcare celebrations at Fed Square, this award recognises the incredible contribution of volunteers working to protect and restore Victoria's environment.

For more than 35 years, TreeProject has been bringing people together to grow indigenous seedlings, restore habitat, improve biodiversity and regenerate landscapes across Victoria.

From our dedicated volunteer growers nurturing seedlings at home, to the planting teams, landholders, community groups and supporters who help get them into the ground, this achievement belongs to every person who has been part of the TreeProject story.

A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteer community. Your time, care and commitment are at the heart of everything we do, and it's wonderful to see that dedication recognised.

Here's to continuing to grow a greener, healthier Victoria together!

There’s plenty happening at our Kensington nursery this week, and we’d love you to join us!

FRIDAY 16 OCTOBER | GROWERS GROUP

Join our friendly Growers Group for a morning of caring for indigenous seedlings, sharing knowledge and lending a hand around the nursery. Whether you're a regular volunteer or joining us for the first time, everyone is welcome!

SUNDAY 18 OCTOBER | TUBE WASHING

10:00am – 3:00pm

It's time to roll up our sleeves and give our growing tubes some TLC! Washing and preparing tubes for reuse is an important part of keeping our nursery running and reducing waste.

We've extended our order deadline to Thursday 15 October, giving landholders, Landcare groups and community organisations a few extra days to secure their seedlings for next year's planting season.⁠

What’s coming up at TreeProject!?

There’s always something happening behind the scenes at TreeProject and this weekend is no exception!

Whether you’re a long time volunteer or looking to get involved for the first time, we’d love to see you at one of our upcoming activities.

Friday 9 October | Weekly Growers Group
10am – 1pm

Join us tomorrow at the nursery for a morning of transplanting, tending to seedlings and helping our future forests grow.

Sunday 11 October | Tube Washing
10am – 3pm

It’s not the most glamorous job, but it’s an important one! Help us wash and prepare seedling tubes for reuse ahead of the next growing season.

📍 Both activities take place in Kensington.

Every seedling grown and every tube washed plays a part in restoring Victoria’s landscapes and creating habitat for wildlife.

For Australian Wildlife Week, we’re looking at something at the heart of TreeProject’s work: creating healthy, diverse habitat for wildlife.⁠
⁠
Habitat isn’t just about planting trees. A healthy ecosystem includes layers of groundcovers, grasses, shrubs and trees, each providing different sources of food, shelter and nesting habitat.⁠
⁠
Flowers provide nectar for birds and pollinators. Seeds feed birds and other animals. Dense vegetation offers protection from predators, while taller trees provide canopy habitat, shelter and nesting opportunities.⁠
⁠
That’s why diversity matters.⁠
⁠
By restoring a range of locally indigenous species, revegetation can help create healthier, more resilient ecosystems where wildlife can feed, shelter and thrive.⁠

From tiny seeds, big things grow.

Today we welcomed the team from Nielsen to TreeProject for a hands-on day of seed sorting and preparation.

It’s an important part of our growing cycle. Before thousands of indigenous seedlings can be raised by our volunteer growers and eventually planted across Victoria, the seeds need to be carefully sorted, prepared and packed.

A huge thank you to the Nielsen team for generously giving their time and helping us prepare for the growing season ahead.

Every seed sorted today is another small step towards putting more indigenous trees and shrubs back on the land.

Join us for our Weekly Growers Group every Friday, lend a hand at one of our Tube Washing days, or pop the important 15 October seedling order deadline in your calendar.

Our October Seed Packing sessions are now SOLD OUT! Thank you to everyone who signed up! We love seeing these sessions fill so quickly.

And a little reminder while you’re visiting the nursery: we currently have seedlings available for sale for just $1 per tube, with a mix of grasses, sedges, flowering plants, shrubs and smaller trees available.
