Multicultural Voices Australia The NEMBC also regularly advocates on issues facing ethnic community broadcasters through submissions that influence government policy.

Formerly the National Ethnic & Multicultural Broadcasters' Council, peak organisation representing multicultural community broadcasters and digital content creators across Australia. Throughout the year, we lobby the government on behalf of our members to make sure that funding for ethnic broadcasting is maintained and, if possible, increased.

MVA has partnered with the Scanlon Foundation Research Institute (SFRI) as the Community Radio Partner for the Australian Social Cohesion Summit 2026, taking place in Melbourne on 5 and 6 November.

MVA has produced short audio grabs and audiogram videos in Arabic, English, Hindi, Mandarin and Vietnamese to help promote the Summit.

Radio producers and stations are encouraged to play the audio grabs on air and share the audiograms across their social media and digital platforms.

The Victorian Government is partnering with RMIT University to offer scholarships to study interpreting and translating courses.

Through the Interpreter Scholarship Program, bilingual Victorians can apply for support across a range of priority languages.

Applications close on 1 November 2026 or earlier if fully subscribed.

We’ve always known community broadcasting makes a huge difference in communities across Australia. Now, new independent research has put a value on that impact!

The first Social Return on Investment analysis of community broadcasting has found our sector creates at least $485 million in social value every year, with at least $7.59 in social value generated for every $1 invested.

And it’s listeners who experience the greatest benefit, through improved wellbeing, stronger social connections, greater community participation and an increased sense of belonging.

The research is also significant for the collaboration behind it. Independently evaluated by Think Impact, it assessed the social value created through community radio services represented by Christian Media & Arts Australia, Disability Media Australia, Multicultural Voices Australia (formerly National Ethnic and Multicultural Broadcasters' Council) and First Nations Media Australia with funding from the Community Broadcasting Foundation and support from the CBAA.
