Founded by Yvonne Gardner and fully volunteer run, we have been proudly serving the community since 1983. was founded in 1983 by Yvonne Gardner. We are an organisation who support and promote the inclusiveness of people living with HIV by providing a weekly lunch in a supportive, friendly environment. Our Friday lunch is also open to the LGBTIQA community. Our Mission statement:

Positive Attitude Inc is a not for profit organisation which relies on donations and support from our wonderful volunteers and sponsors. We thank our major fundraisers and supporters Sircuit Bar and Mollie's Bar and Diner, Drummond Street Services, and the City of Yarra for their support. We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people who are the traditional owners of the land on which we meet and pay our respect to their elders past, present and emerging. Always was, always will be.

June 5 is HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day. First observed in 2014, it’s a day to honor long-term survivors of HIV and raise awareness about their needs, issues, and journeys.

The selection of June 5 for this annual observance coincides with the anniversary of the first official reporting of what became known as the AIDS epidemic on June 5, 1981, when the CDC first reported on five cases of a mysterious disease affecting young gay men. June 5, 1981 is considered the start of the AIDS pandemic.

Today we honor the resilience, courage, and contributions of individuals living with HIV for an extended period, particularly those who pioneered the response and survived the early years of the pandemic.

You might have noticed things have been a little quiet here lately - we’re on the move!

Access to our Friday Lunch space at the Edinburgh Gardens Community Room has been affected by building works that are currently underway, so our wonderful friends at Yarra City Council Venues & Events Team have found us a new home!

We’re taking a few weeks off to get packed up and moved in.
Watch this space for the big reveal and details of a special celebratory welcome lunch at our fabulous new venue!

Positive Attitude Inc is a wholly volunteer-run organisation and would not exist without the support of a wonderful group of individuals who support us in numerous ways.

National Volunteer Week 2026 celebrates the power of volunteering to bring people together.
Volunteering creates lasting relationships that enrich lives and strengthen communities.
Giving to others fosters community engagement, connection and belonging.

The theme for National Volunteer Week 2026 is ‘Your Year To Volunteer’. This honours the contributions of volunteers and invites people across Australia to make 2026 a year of meaningful involvement, in ways that work for them.
It's an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the spirit of connection and the incredible impact volunteers have in building inclusive and flourishing communities.

No Friday Lunch this week due to IDAHOBIT Day activities.
We’ll be back next week with more delicious dishes like this slow cooked Braised Beef, and Rhubarb & Apple Crumble that our lunch guests enjoyed last Friday.

Message us by Wednesday night if you’d like to join us at our free Friday Lunch this week. All people living with HIV and their friends and allies in the LGBTIQ+ community are welcome.
Catch up with old friends or meet new ones while enjoying a delicious lunch.

Last week our guests enjoyed 3 scrumptious courses of mini pizzas with prosciutto and rocket, Butter Chicken, and Angella’s famous Tiramisu. We forgot to photograph the Tiramisu as everyone was so eager to tuck in!

Positive Attitude Inc President, Melissa Williams has been nominated for the Community Leader of the Year in the Euphoria Social awards in recognition of her outstanding service to community.

As President of Positive Attitude Inc., Melissa has dedicated herself to supporting people living with HIV and the LGBTIQ+ community through compassion, advocacy and practical action. Her work is completely voluntary and unpaid.

From leading programs that reduce social isolation, to ensuring people feel connected and supported during difficult times, her impact has been profound.

Melissa has also been a trailblazer in reproductive advocacy for le****ns wishing to become parents, helping advance equality and support for diverse families.
Her decades long commitment to inclusion, dignity and community care makes this recognition so well deserved.

A moment to honour the strength, resilience, and diversity of le****ns everywhere.
We pay tribute to the generations before us—especially the le****ns who stood with gay men during the AIDS epidemic, offering care, advocacy, and compassion when it was needed most. Their courage and solidarity helped shape a legacy of community and love that continues today.

We celebrate all le****ns in our full diversity, including transgender women who are an essential and valued part of our community. Visibility matters, and every voice deserves to be seen, heard, and uplifted 🚺💜🚺
