We hope you will consider signing this Global Statement in urgent support of the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls, Reem Alsalem. The Special Rapporteur is being targeted again by groups and individuals who (1) call for the decriminalization and the growth of the s*x trade, including the purchase of s*xual acts, pimping, brothel-owning, s*x tourism, online facilitation of prostitution and po*******hy, etc.; (2) call for the commodification of violence and discrimination against women and girls, including in commercial surrogacy; and (3) reject that s*x-based discrimination leads to gender-based violence, as enshrined in United Nations conventions and international human rights instruments, including CEDAW.

Dear Friends and Allies: We hope you will consider signing this Global Statement in urgent support of the UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women and Girls (the Special Rapporteur), Reem Alsalem. Great news out of France - an important win for abolitionists

🌟 BIG NEWS! 🌟

The European Court of Human Rights has put an end to the challenge against France’s abolitionist law!
By rejecting the referral to the Grand Chamber, the court has confirmed that July’s judgment upholding the legislation is FINAL!

This landmark decision by Europe’s highest human rights jurisdiction recognises that France’s abolitionist law:
✅ Aligns with international human rights instruments ratified by France
✅ Results from a democratic process aimed at fighting violence against women
✅ Targets pimping by cutting off its main source of revenue and seeks to safeguard human dignity
✅ Better combats the prostitution of minors and vulnerable individuals
✅ Supports the end of prostitution while offering alternatives to prostituted persons

📌 The prohibition of purchasing s*xual acts, combined with the decriminalisation of prostituted persons, has been confirmed to:
• Shift the balance of power in favor of prostituted persons.
• Be part of a coherent, global approach to abolition.

Additionally, the court emphasised:
🔹 The alleged negative effects of the law by the applicants were present before the law and could be inherent to the prostitution phenomenon
🔹 France acted within its rights and did not overstep its margin of appreciation
🔹 There is no violation of Article 8 (right to privacy & family life)
nor any violation of Article 2 (right to life) and Article 3 (prohibition of inhumane and degrading treatment) which were dismissed by the Court.
