Pigeon Rescue Melbourne Pigeon Rescue Melbourne is a small nonprofit bird rescue run by an amazing group of volunteers.

All of our birds have a $30 adoption fee which goes back into the rescue to help cover food, assisting our volunteer carers and medical costs.

Dear the 'Pigeon Rescue Melbourne' community,

Today, with tears in our eyes but love in our hearts, we are saying goodbye and closing this chapter of our lives.

For the past almost 7 years, our team has served the community and helped hundreds of pigeons. It is something we have loved doing, and our hearts are full knowing that so many lives were saved through our combined efforts.

'Pigeon Rescue Melbourne' was founded and run by a team of passionate pigeon lovers, operating across multiple shelters with the help of foster carers and transporters. Over the years, members of our team have moved on - whether due to careers, family commitments, or relocation. For the past two years, PRM has condensed down to a single shelter and has been primarily run by one person.

This is no longer feasible. Requests for help continue to come from all over Victoria, while adoptions have remained limited. For the wellbeing of the pigeons currently in care, the difficult but necessary decision has been made to close 'Pigeon Rescue Melbourne' as an organisation.

The pigeons at the remaining shelter are currently undergoing treatment for illness and are under veterinary care. Sadly, we have lost a number of birds, which has been devastating. We continue to work closely with our veterinary team to investigate the root cause; however, we are no longer financially or physically able to continue the work of PRM.

This decision has been incredibly difficult, but it has been made with the agreement of all original founding members and our current shelter.

We would like to sincerely thank:
- Our followers, who supported us on social media and through donations of food and funds
- All transporters, foster carers, and veterinarians who dedicated their time and care to our pigeons
- Our founders, for many years of hard work in rehabilitation and care
- Our friends, for their unwavering support during both the good and challenging times
- Our adopters, for choosing a pigeon as a forever family member
- The public, for looking out for and reporting pigeons in need of help

If you require assistance with a pigeon, please contact:
Freckles Fellowship Pigeon Rescue
Peanuts Pigeon Project(Ballarat only rescue)
Warratyekin Pigeon Loft & Rescue

We will continue to care for the birds already in care and for the time being our email and adoption forms will remain open for those looking to bring a pigeon into their homes.

In the coming weeks a few post will be made for the birds needing homes still including one of our founders birds.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for the years of support shown to 'Pigeon Rescue Melbourne'.

Signing off for the last time as PRM,
Angus, Kirsten, Andrew, Zac, & Lars.

Squidge is looking for a home 🏡

Meet Squidge 🕊️
Squidge is a gentle, soulful little companion with a love for calm energy and beautiful sounds. She adores new age music Enya and Enigma are favourites and will loaf near the speaker, pecking at it when the song ends or softly cooing along to the ones she likes.

Shy but deeply social, Squidge wants to be near you without being rushed. She’s happiest watching you cook, loafing nearby during TV time, or observing from a high perch where she can quietly bond at her own pace. She responds warmly to voices, greeting you with morning coos and sometimes singing happily while she eats.

Highly treat-motivated, Squidge will gently take food from your fingers and is learning to step confidently onto hands especially if sunflower seeds are involved. (She loves them so much her feathers tremble with excitement!) Once perched on you, she’s calm, trusting, and content to preen and relax.

Though sensitive and a little skittish, Squidge is incredibly affectionate on her terms. She enjoys marching along chair backs at eye level to preen you or attempt to nest in your hair, loafs on windowsills like a cat to watch the world go by, and forgives brief handling after a few minutes.

Curious but cautious, she approaches new experiences slowly and thoughtfully, taking time afterward to settle and ground herself.

Squidge has been DNA tested and confirmed female. She isn’t suited to free flight, but would thrive in a secure indoor home, predator proof outdoor aviary, or safe indoor/outdoor setup. She would be most happy with a partner or in a flock environment.

Bandaid is looking for a home 🏡

Meet Bandaid 🕊️✨
Bandaid’s story begins with a kind stranger. She was dropped off at a Melbourne bird vet as a squeaker by a caring member of the public after being found with a small wound under her wing. Wanting to help, they gently placed a bandage on her injury and that sweet act of kindness is exactly how she got her name.
Once a quiet little pigeon, Bandaid has recently discovered her big girl voice, and she’s very proud of it. These days she practises her coos daily, filling the room with gentle pigeon chatter as she learns just how expressive she can be. And just to make it official Bandaid is a confirmed girl, thanks to a DNA test. 🎀

One of Bandaid’s greatest loves in life is her mirror. You’ll often find her sitting close, softly cooing and keeping company with the very pretty pigeon looking back at her. But watch out! If anyone gets a little too close to her mirror friend, Bandaid will bravely show off her pecking skills.

She’s a curious soul who enjoys watching the world around her and investigating new sights at her own pace. Bandaid is still shy of hands and prefers to admire humans from a respectful distance, but her bravery shines when something important needs defending especially that mirror.

With patience, kindness, and an understanding home, Bandaid will continue to grow into her voice and her confidence. She’s a gentle, quirky pigeon with a big heart and would suit a home with a pigeon boyfriend to share her days with, or the freedom to fly among a flock of friends in a safe outdoor aviary. 🕊️

While we are temporarily closed for intakes, the work of pigeon rescue continues.

In the last few weeks, we’ve had a lot happening:
Our beloved Peeper sadly passed away due to complications associated with being egg-bound.
Augustus was returned to us after his family decided they couldn’t keep him.
Whipper Snipper Child, a young spotted dove injured by a whipper snipper, has needed care to recover from their injuries involving damage to their eye.
On top of this, the changes in weather the last few months always bring out a host of illnesses such as respiratory and coccidia which tend to hit our more medically sensitive birds with lowered immune systems.
With this comes this comes vet appointments, medications and treatment plans.

And that’s just the start. We currently have 76 birds at our Moe shelter alone, all needing food, shelter, enrichment, and - at times - medical care.

All of this comes with a cost that no single person can cover alone.

That’s why your support makes a difference. Donations help us care for the birds already with us.

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Peeper, one of our special needs permanent residence.
Peeper came to us a bit over a year ago as a splayed leg and slipped tendon juvenile that has been dumped in a caring member of the publics front yard.
Thanks to this kind person Peeper was able to get the care and treatment she so desperately needed including amputation of her worst leg.

Over the past year Peeper has been a bit of a celebrity within our team and those who met her, showing an unwavering zest for life and sass to rival every bird she met.

Late Friday night she was found to be egg bound, supportive care over night was provided and treatment was started the next day to which not one but two eggs were found trying to come out at the same time.
She got through this period as well as could be hoped and spent a lot of the day resting with constant check in and monitoring, as well as medication to keep her comfortable for recovery.

Unfortunately later that night during a check in she had just passed away, cradled comfortably within her bed, as peacefully as if she had fallen asleep.

It is always hard losing birds but some just leave a mark on you that really set them out from any others, Peeper was this kind of bird.

We all grieve the loss of this amazing little critter and are glad to have been a part of her journey.

Rest easy Eepy Peeper ❤️‍🩹

Spray and Seeb are looking for a home! 🏡

Two human-friendly pigeons.
Two backstories.
One braincell (shared, often on strike).

Meet Spray and Seeb (with a b).

Seeb had a rough start to life. His parents fed him seed before he was ready (hence the name), so he spent his early months being cared for by his human. He often accompanied them to work. Despite his claims, he is not authorised to drive a forklift.

Spray (government name: Spray Bottle) was named after a cheap Bunnings spray bottle, because that’s the exact sound she made as a child. She loves gently preening her human and low-key judging her boyfriend.

Spray and Seeb will stare at you from their designated spot (your bathroom sink) until you run them a bath (also in your bathroom sink). If you take Seeb somewhere, Spray will follow. A more reliable transport system than Yarra Trams.

These two are in love, so they come as a package deal. Perfect for someone who thinks:
"I love pigeons, but I hate how smart they are."

Footy is looking for a home 🏡

You ever look at man on bumble and think “I can fix him?”

Hold up. We have a pigeon that’ll fulfil that need, but cost you significantly less in therapy.

Meet Footy.

He is:ďż˝- Missing a legďż˝- Half-scalpedďż˝- Mildly traumatised

Unlike your tinder fling, Footy won’t make you listen to a 3 hour monologue about the podcast he’s definitely starting. All Footy wants is a safe, indoor home with a person who has the time, patience, and love to help him regain his confidence.

Can you be that person?

Goth Queen is looking for a home 🏡

Appropriately named? Maybe not, this lovely bird is suspiciously male in behaviour and isn't afraid to show off with a fanned tail and a peep in his step.
A near pure white pigeon with the faintest if black cheek patches, Goth queen is sure to stand out in a crowd.

Could Goth Queen be your next flock friend? Apply for adoption using the form below 👇
