Trans Sisters United

Trans Sisters United Supporting transgender women and women especially of colour, through advocacy, education, & partnerships.

Trans Sisters United was co-founded by Sasja Sÿdek, Miss Katalyna, and Rebeckah Loveday, three proud transgender women deeply inspired by a documentary film about The Sistergirls of Tiwi Islands, which they encountered at the Q***r Melbourne Film Festival in 2019. Motivated by a desire to support The Sistergirls, they utilised their privilege to forge meaningful connections. In October 2019, Sasja

and Rebeckah embarked on a journey to Tiwi Islands to meet The Sistergirls, returning again in February 2020 for a weekend immersed in their community, family, and village. This transformative experience evolved their initial connection into an activism-focused initiative, with Sasja assuming full responsibility for Trans Sisters United. Trans Sisters United is a nonprofit organisation, founded by trans women for women, committed to developing initiatives that catalyse positive change for the transgender women, trans non-binary and women community. Our efforts revolve around advocacy, activism, awareness-raising, and fostering community collaboration. We prioritise creating a safe and inclusive space specifically for transgender women and women, acknowledging the unique ways both groups encounter misogyny. Transgender women face intersecting challenges, navigating gender-based discrimination alongside bias stemming from their transgender identity, leading to invalidation, discrimination, and violence. Similarly, women confront systemic and cultural oppression, resulting in gender-based discrimination, unequal treatment, objectification, and inequality across various aspects of life. Advocating for the equal rights, respect, and liberation of both transgender women and women is paramount, addressing and challenging the misogyny they encounter. At Trans Sisters United, we recognise the shared experiences of transgender women and women in facing misogyny. Our mission is to establish a safe and inclusive environment where they are valued, empowered, and celebrated. By cantering transgender women alongside women, we aim to confront oppressive forces and foster a space where all women can thrive. Through collaboration, mutual support, and the embrace of diverse experiences within our community, we strive to dismantle barriers and build a society that honours and uplifts every woman, regardless of gender identity. Trans Sisters United is not an organisation that deals with crisis. We may not have the resources to meet your specific needs, but we are pleased to guide you to an organisation that could offer assistance.

How true this is. Thank you for highlighting this.

As trans women, many of us know this experience all too well.

A conversation begins innocently enough. Small talk. A compliment. A casual message. Then, somewhere along the way, the tone changes.

Suddenly, we’re hearing someone’s deepest trauma they’ve never unpacked. A sexual fantasy they swear they’ve “never told anyone before.” A confession offered with the quiet assumption that we’ll understand, absorb it, and carry it without hesitation.

And vulnerability itself isn’t the problem.

What becomes exhausting is the expectation beneath it.

There’s often this unspoken belief that because we’re trans women, we must be comfortable hearing anything. As though our existence is somehow more sexualised, more taboo, or less deserving of boundaries than anyone else’s.

Too often, we’re placed into roles we never asked for, part therapist, part confessional booth, part fantasy object.

Expected to listen. Expected to reassure. Expected to hold space for conversations that many people would think twice before having with anyone else.

But we are people, not containers for other people’s shame, secrets, desires, or unresolved emotions.

We deserve boundaries. We deserve to choose what we hold, what we hear, and what we consent to emotionally.

And we know we are far from the only trans women who have lived this reality.

LGBTQIA+ Lived Experience Steering Committee - Strategy Weekend Retreat by

This weekend in Queenscliff was more than a retreat. It was a gathering of stories, resistance, healing, and collective vision.

Hand-selected by the incredible Amity Mara — our Mother — to sit on this LGBTQIA+ Lived Experience Steering Committee, each one of us came carrying something different: pain, resilience, survival, joy, displacement, identity, culture, chosen family, and hope.

Many of us know what it means to navigate systems not built for us. To be LGBTQIA+ and migrant. To live between worlds. To experience exclusion, isolation, invisibility, yet still continue to show up, fight, create community, and dream of something better.

Our lived experiences are not weaknesses to overcome or stories to be tokenised. They are knowledge. They are expertise. They are power.

Together, we are working to help shape a future where LGBTQIA+ migrants are not merely included as an afterthought, but centred, valued, protected, and celebrated.

Because change must be led by those who have lived it.

Deep gratitude for this space, these conversations, and the courageous humans around the table. The work ahead is urgent, but so is our hope.

For our communities. For those still finding their way. For a future where nobody is left behind.

IDAHOBIT 17 May — the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Interphobia and Transphobia, we stand together in solidarity, pride, and resistance. 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈

At Trans Sisters United, we honour the strength, resilience, and beauty of transgender and gender diverse communities, especially transgender women of colour who continue to face discrimination, violence, and exclusion simply for existing.

IDAHOBIT is not only a day of visibility, but also a reminder that equality, safety, dignity, and human rights are not optional, they are fundamental.

We celebrate our communities, our chosen families, and every person who continues to live authentically despite the barriers placed before them. Your existence matters. Your voice matters. You belong.

Let us continue creating workplaces, schools, healthcare systems, and communities where everyone can live free from fear and discrimination.

Together, we rise. Together, we thrive. ✊🏽
