Founded in 1951 by progressive students from the University of Melbourne's "International Students Club," the Australia China Friendship Society (ACFS) was one of the first organisations in the Western world to advocate for the recognition of the People's Republic of China and to strengthen cultural, trade and peaceful relations with China.

A national celebration was held at the Chinese Museum in Melbourne last week to mark this incredible milestone. ACFS National President Li Shuqin reflected on 75 years of the organisation's commitment to build a bridge between the two nations as a "quiet diplomacy of the heart", and Consul General Fang Xinwen expressed hope for enhanced cooperation between the two countries and a shared future.

Guests, including many long-standing members of the ACFS as well as overseas and interstate visitors, were addressed by Labor MP Mathew Hilakari, Parliamentary Secretary for Education, and Nicholas Reece, Lord Mayor of Melbourne. Also among the dignitaries present were Greens MLC Aiv Puglielli and City of Melbourne councillors.

The Australia China Friendship Society is hosting a movie night!

To Live (活着, Huózhe) is a 1994 Chinese drama directed by Zhang Yimou and adapted from Yu Hua's 1993 novel of the same name.

The film spans the 1940s–1970s, tracing the Xu family's survival through the Chinese Civil War, Great Leap Forward, and Cultural Revolution and won numerous prestigious international awards in 1994 including, Cannes Grand Prix and Best Actor, and Golden Globe Best Foreign Language Film.

Popcorn and drinks are available on the night! Free entry!

CRAFT AND BEER NIGHT

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Golden Dragon Museum is hosting a special ‘Craft and Beer Night’ in partnership with Bendigo Brewing. Get some friends together and join in the fun of this wonderful twilight event in the beautiful Yi Yuan Gardens.

Paper folding is a popular craft across Asia and here you will learn how to make a traditional paper Crane before tackling the more difficult Horse. Sit back, relax and enjoy a cold drink and some finger food from Emperor’s Dragon Restaurant, whilst chatting and learning a new craft. Perfect!

Ticket price includes all craft materials, light refreshments and one complimentary drink. Additional drinks will be available for purchase at bar prices.

A record-breaking outdoor escalator project spanning 905 meters with a vertical rise of 240 meters is set to open in Chongqing, southwest China.
The massive mountain-climbing system—comprising 21 escalators, 8 elevators, and 4 moving walkways—will cut travel time along the scenic Shennü Avenue from nearly an hour to about 20 minutes, greatly easing daily commutes and sightseeing.
