A new and exciting initiative is underway to create a Greek Australian writers’ support group

Under the auspices of the Greek-Australian Cultural League, this group will provide a space and forum to meet regularly to share Greek Australian and Philhellene writing.

The aim is to provide assistance, guidance, and support for group members as they pursue their chosen goals in creative writing and, perhaps, eventual publishing.

This is another initiative that aligns with the GACL's aims to advance, support, and disseminate the creative endeavours of Greek-Australian writers and artists.

To launch this new initiative, the League will initially present:

Theme A: Writing our Inheritance

“There are stories we’ve inherited. Often, they’re told throughout our growing years.
Sometimes they’re prised open or found in the nooks and crannies of heritage and ancestry.”

Theme B: Writing as Advocacy

“We examine how writing awakens our empathy, becomes a call to action, contributes to the social discourse of change for a person or a group of people.”

Creative Writing Workshop 2

“Writing generated by the participants of Workshop 1 will have received one-to-one feedback by Angela Costi before this second workshop. This workshop will focus on how to
provide constructive feedback and how to edit your writing towards a point ready for submitting to journals, competitions or other public spheres.”

Genres of writing covered: poetry, memoir, flash fiction and short stories.
All writing levels catered for.

ΛΟΓΟΤΕΧΝΙΚΟΣ ΔΙΑΓΩΝΙΣΜΟΣ 2026

Ο Ελληνο-Αυστραλιανός Πολιτιστικός Σύνδεσμος στα πλαίσια των δράσεών του φέτος αποφάσισε να προκηρύσσει στον Λογοτεχνικό Διαγωνισμό -

1.Μπορείτε να γράψετε ένα θέμα δική σας επιλογής.

2. Η για την προώθηση της ελληνικής γλώσσας και του σύγχρονου πολιτιστικού διαλόγου, το θέμα: Η Ελληνική γλώσσα ταξιδεύει στον κόσμο και στον χρόνο

3. Η με αίσθημα ευθύνης απέναντι στην ιστορική μνήμη της εξόδου του Μεσσολογγίου, το θέμα: Η διαχρονικότητα της θυσίας στη σύγχρονη εποχή

Ο ετήσιος Λογοτεχνικός Διαγωνισμός καλύπτει έργα γραμμένα στην Ελληνική ή Αγγλική γλώσσα ή δίγλωσσα από συγγραφείς που διαμένουν στην Αυστραλία και είναι ηλικίας άνω των 18 ετών στις κατηγορίες: ποίηση, και διήγημα.

Η συμμετοχή στον Λογοτεχνικό Διαγωνισμό είναι ανοικτή στα μέλη και στους υποστηρικτές του ΕΑΠΣ. Φέτος η προθεσμία υποβολής έργων για συμμετοχή στον Διαγωνισμό λήγει την Παρασκευή 17 Ιουλίου 2026.

Τα έργα που θα πάρουν το Πρώτο Βραβείο στην κάθε κατηγορία και στην καθεμιά από τις δύο γλώσσες θα δημοσιευθούν στο Τεύχος 72, 2026 του ετήσιου δίγλωσσου περιοδικού του Πολιτιστικού Συνδέσμου Αντίποδες. Τα αποτελέσματα του Λογοτεχνικού Διαγωνισμού θα ανακοινωθούν σε ειδική εκδήλωση που θα λάβει μέρος στο προσεχές μέλλον.

LITERARY COMPETITION 2026

The Greek-Australian Cultural League (GACL), as part of its activities this year, has decided to announce the following for the Literary Competition – 1. You may select to write on a topic of your own choice.

2. Or for the promotion of the Greek language and contemporary cultural dialogue, the topic: The Greek language traverses through the world and through time 3. Or with a sense of responsibility towards the historical memory of the Exodus of Messolonghi, the topic: The timelessness of sacrifice in the modern era.

The GACL is calling writers, over 18 years who reside in Australia, to take part in the annual literary competition on any of the above themes if they wish, either as a poem or a short story written in either Greek or English.

All entries must be submitted by Friday, 17th July 2026.

The competition provides entrants with the opportunity to present their unpublished works to a wider audience.

Participants may submit work in one or all the categories and in one or both languages, with only one piece submitted to each category that they choose. There is a monetary prize for the first winner in each category. The winners, along with those in second and third place, will receive commemorative award certificates and a gift. The entry form and competition rules can be obtained via email: [email protected]

Some of the key rules for the competition include the following:

♦ All entries must only be sent electronically (only as a Word document attachment) to the competition email address: [email protected]

♦ The poems are restricted a maximum of 100 lines and a short story must be no more than 2,000 words. Any submission exceeding this limit will be rejected.

♦ All submissions must be original work and must not have been submitted in other competitions or have been published.

The first winning entry for each category will be published in the 72nd issue of the periodical, Antipodes. Further details as to the Award Day will be announced in due course.

PERIODICAL ANTIPODES, ISSUE 72, 2026

This year, the periodical is mainly dedicated to the Greek language and contemporary cultural dialogue, as well as the significant historical memory of the Exodus of Messolonghi. It will feature the most ambitious topics, including interesting articles, personal accounts, and research analyses, in both Greek and English. The special issue will be overseen by the Editorial team, responsible for collecting articles from appointed writers.

The periodical will be launched on Sunday, 18th October 2026, at a venue to be announced.

We are seeking sponsors for this special publication. The back cover is available for advertisements at $ 2,000.00, while a half-page advertisement is available for $650.00. We appeal to you, our members, friends and supporters, to respond.

ΠΕΡΙΟΔΙΚΟ ΑΝΤΙΠΟΔΕΣ Τεύχος 72, 2026

Ο ΕΑΠΣ στα πλαίσια τον δράσεων του για την προώθηση της ελληνικής γλώσσας και σύγχρονου πολιτισμού διαλόγου αποφάσισε να αφιερώσει το περιοδικό Αντίποδες τεύχος 72 κυρίως στην Ελληνική Γλώσσα και παράλληλα με αίσθημα ευθύνης στην ιστορική μνήμη της Έξόδου του Μεσολογγίου. Το περιεχόμενο του θα αποτελείται από διάφορα ενδιαφέροντα άρθρα, προσωπικές ιστορίες, τεκμηριωμένες αναλύσεις και μελέτες, στην ελληνική ή αγγλική γλώσσα.

Η Συντακτική Επιτροπή του περιοδικού θα αναλάβει την περισυλλογή της ύλης από άτομα της παροικίας που θα καταθέσουν προσωπικές εμπειρίες, όπως επίσης και από άτομα που έχουν τεκμηριωμένες μελέτες για τα δύο θέματα.
