Join us for a FREE cervical cancer screening awareness and education session for women and gender diverse people with disabilities.

This is a special 90 minute event hosted by WDV's Online Leadership Hub.

This session will include learning about how cervical cancer screening protects you, as well as tips on how to make it a more comfortable and stress free experience.

We know women and gender diverse people with disability experience chronic pain more often and in different ways to those without disability. Last year WDV welcomed, Bridging the Gender Pain Gap, a report from the Victorian Government’s Inquiry into Women’s Pain. As we enter International Pain Awareness Month this September, WDV continue to stand with and advocate for our community experiencing pain and living with pain conditions. Thank you to our wonderful staff, participants and members who listen to their bodies, take breaks and make accommodations as needed, who continue to show up every day, whatever that looks like for them, with pain. Today, we wear purple to show LGBTIQA+ young people that they are seen, valued, supported and belong.

Inclusion means creating safe, accessible environments where LGBTIQA+ people with disability can live free from violence, discrimination and exclusion.

Free! Wellbeing Afternoon for Women and Gender Diverse People with Disabilities Including Cervical Cancer Screening Education Session Delivered by Women with Disabilities Victoria in partnership with Women’s Health Grampians, Grampians Disability Advocacy Inc., and Stawell Neighbourhood House. This project is supported by Cancer Council Victoria with funding from the Victorian Government.

What to expect:

-Learn how cervical cancer screening protects you
-Tips for a comfortable and stress-free experience
-Chat with a sexual health nurse
-Connect with others over a creative activity facilitated by local artist
-Enjoy lunch!
-Free self-care pack and resources

These sessions are designed for women and people with a cervix aged 25-74 years, in line with the National Cervical Screening Program recommendations.

When: Thursday 10th September 2026, 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Where: Stawell Neighbourhood House, 42 Sloane Street, Stawell
Registrations are essential to help us plan for dietary and accessibility requirements.

This week has been a really hard one; As people with disabilities. And as women and gender diverse people.
On behalf of the WDV team we share our care and solidarity with our members and community.
This weekend we will be taking the opportunity to acknowledge how difficult this time may be and to do the things that replenish us.
Whatever that looks like for you, please also; Reset. Rest. Restore.

Joint Statement. Parliament has passed the NDIS Bill. Victorian advocacy organisations condemn it. We are not going anywhere!

Australia has just legislated to remove around 240,000 people from the NDIS by 2031 and to divert a further 110,000 from ever getting in. That is not sustainability. That is a transfer of cost... onto disabled people, our families and the people who work with us.

This was not a decision made without information.
The evidence was overwhelming; it was public, and it was disregarded.

We call on the Government to:
• Guarantee that no participant loses supports before a genuine alternative exists in their community, in a form they can actually use.
• Meet its Communication Rights.
• A person must never be found to have failed to respond when the Agency failed to communicate.
• Publish the data.
• Subject every support determination made by the Minister to full parliamentary scrutiny and expect us at every disallowance debate.

What happens now for disabled Victorians? If you are an NDIS participant, your plan does not change today. The changes arrive in stages. Every decision made about you carries review rights, and those rights still exist.

This is a hard day, and you are allowed to feel it.
You have not lost your rights. You have not lost your advocates. Our organisations are here for you.
Nothing about us, without us. That did not stop being true because a Bill passed.

Members are invited to attend a Special General Meeting to vote on a proposed change to our external auditor. An auditor is an independent professional who reviews our finances and helps ensure we meet our legal and financial responsibilities.
The Board will recommend that members approve the removal of the current auditor and the appointment of a new auditor. This change reflects our commitment to strong governance, accountability and responsible management.
Members can find the meeting information, including voting and registration details, in the Notice of Meeting sent via email.
