This is why winter is the best time to visit 👇
🚘Just 3 hours from Melbourne, you don’t need to travel far this winter to have an adventure.
But why visit in winter?
🥾The hiking trails are quieter. With 100+ trails ranging from easy walks to multi-day adventures, the Grampians trails get popular! Head out in winter for fewer crowds and a quieter hiking experience. Start with the Pinnacle via Wonderland Carpark — the Grand Canyon and Silent Street sections alone are worth the drive.
💦The waterfalls are flowing: With 10+ waterfalls across the park, the Grampians is a waterfall wonderland, and the winter rains mean they are usually pumping during the cooler season. MacKenzie Falls is the only one that flows year-round. Walk a little further down the track to see Fish Falls as well.
🦘The wildlife: Quieter trails mean more opportunities to spot wildlife, and the Grampians are home to 230 bird species, 40 mammals and 30 reptiles. Kangaroos and emus are often spotted near Halls Gap and along the roads, so please drive with caution.
🌸The flora: One third of all Victorian plant species grow in the Grampians National Park — 975 in total. Many of the species are found nowhere else on earth. From late August onwards is the best time to spot flowers (please remember not to pick any).
🏡Where to stay — YHA Grampians Eco, Halls Gap. YHA Grampians Eco is your ideal, affordable base for a winter getaway.
