“ARE YOU ONE OF HIS REAL DISCIPLES”?
In Matthew 5:1 the Word of the Lord says "Now when he saw the crowds, He went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him."
Here Jesus was dealing with two sets of people - the crowds that He saw and His disciples that came to Him.
The crowds were those people who came to hear Him gladly because "never a man spake like this." They were excited about what they were hearing and were eager to hear more, and that was where it ended. They were not committed to doing what He said. Neither do they want to go all the way with Him. They were always committed to the leading of their flesh and human manipulation. Always given to taking short cuts and embracing ungodly opportunities.
The crowd came for the bread, and the fishes, they came for the healings and the miracles. They came to receive and were always eager to ask for more, always chasing Jesus to wherever He was ministering.
But the disciples? They were His disciplined followers, following the Lamb wherever He went whether it was convenient or not (Rev. 14:4). They climbed the mountainside to go up to Him and were there with Him at all times. It was to them He revealed the mysteries of the kingdom (Mark 4:11); they were the ones He taught the principles of the kingdom of God (Matt. 5:9). They were the ones that endured His training (Luke 24:25-27), took His rebuke without complaining (Matt. 16:23), and continued with Him even in His afflictions (Luke 22:28-29).
At the end of the day, they were the ones that remained after His resurrection, to receive the power that He promised, and they took His message to the ends of the earth in the power of the Holy Spirit at great costs (Acts 4:19-20). The disciples were the ones to whom He appointed a place in the kingdom of His Father.
_*"Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations. And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me."*_ (Luke 22:28-29).
The crowd of those who believed Jesus when He was on earth was great, but in His affliction, only the true disciples remained, and continued in His Word (John 8:31). The crowd scattered and went their own way. There are so many believers in Christ in the world today but very few are real disciples.
Are you one of His real disciples?
