Urban Coup is an initiative of a group of Melbournians who share a vision of creating not just housing, but community. Urban Coup (Inc.)

with Nightingale and Architecture Architecture has developed an innovative co-housing project in Melbourne. The building has 29 households and is one of 6 developments which comprise Nightingale Village located in Brunswick. Residents moved into the new building mid-2022. Co-housing is a popular housing model in Scandinavia, North America and the UK. Unlike a housing cooperative or a commune, Urba

n Coup's co-housing model starts with individual financial independence, with members owning their own dwelling. Extensive shared facilities and common spaces, both indoors and out, are intentionally designed to create a village-like environment in an urban setting. The use of shared facilities, passive solar design philosophy and choice of materials all contribute towards the goal of environmental sustainability.
