Last week we hosted a lunchtime workshop in partnership with one of our Premium Partners, the City of Greater Dandenong.

This session showcased the brand new Dandenong Pathway to Employment Hub — an exciting initiative for job seekers, employers, business owners and recruiters alike.

This free service assists and supports people in their employment journey, by helping them find suitable work prospects, training opportunities, apprenticeships, and identifying general employment and career pathways.

Unlike regular job agencies and recruiters, the Dandenong Pathway to Employment Hub's main aim is designed to connect people with the right service or assistance, to suit their needs and their current situation.

The hub is all about providing the right information to meet people where they're at on their employment journey and empowering them to make informed career decisions.

Opened by our GDCC Vice President Peter Helmore, at this invaluable session we were treated to a casual lunch and networking, followed by an insightful presentation from Rachel Burree ACEcD and Employment Hub Lead Nyaguay Muon.

The ladies walked us through how the hub supports employment in the region and provided some very interesting statistics about the current workforce in the Greater Dandenong area.

After the presentation, we participated in an insights exercise, where we discussed as a group what challenges employees, business owners and employers are currently experiencing, and explored practical solutions together.

It was great to see our guests so engaged in this workshop, with plenty of discussion and passion to boot!

Thank you to everyone who attended. We truly appreciate you all providing your honest and open feedback.

We look forward to seeing the Dandenong Pathway to Employment Hub grow from strength to strength, as it establishes itself as a valuable resource within the community.

A Message From Our President:

🔥 A fascinating look behind the scenes at Jensen Hughes in Dandenong South.

One of the things I’m really enjoying as President of the Greater Dandenong Chamber of Commerce is getting out and spending time with the businesses that form such an important part of our region.

This week, Jaqueline Seromenho and I had the pleasure of visiting Jensen Hughes in Dandenong South, where we received an incredibly warm welcome from Alif Mohd, Sales Manager.

Alif took the time to give us a tour of the facility and explain the work undertaken there and I have to say, it was absolutely fascinating.

The Dandenong facility is home to Jensen Hughes’ NATA-accredited fire testing laboratory, where their team undertakes fire resistance and reaction-to-fire testing of building materials, products, and construction systems. Their capabilities include everything from testing walls, doors, floors, and ceilings through to bushfire testing, façade testing, and technical fire assessments.

It really gives you a different appreciation of the science, engineering and rigorous testing that sits behind the fire safety standards designed to protect our buildings and communities.

Jensen Hughes also has a much broader presence across Australia, providing expertise in areas including fire safety engineering, building code consulting, accessibility and universal design, product certification, and environmentally sustainable design.

A huge thank you to Alif for being so generous with his time and for making Jaqueline and me feel so welcome.

Visits like this are such a valuable opportunity for the Chamber to better understand the businesses operating within our region, what they do, the people behind them and the contribution they make locally and well beyond Greater Dandenong.

And I have to admit… seeing the fire testing facilities up close was pretty impressive!
