Powerful thank you Lord Jesus 🙌🙏
Samuel said to Saul, “Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?”
“I am in great distress,” Saul said. “The Philistines are fighting against me, and God has departed from me. He no longer answers me, either by prophets or by dreams. So I have called on you to tell me what to do.”
1 Samuel 28:15
At the end of his life, not much remains of the Saul who once was filled with the Lord’s Spirit, prophesying and becoming a changed man (1 Samuel 10:6-13). Then, God was with him. Now, Saul is desperately afraid and looking to Him for answers, but receiving none. He’s in such great distress, he does what no God-fearing man should ever do: he turns to the occult. At the beginning of his reign, Saul had purified Israel from all those who committed such sins, now he swears in the Name of the Lord that the woman who summons Samuel’s spirit from the grave will face no repercussions for doing so.
Regardless of Saul’s bad choices, the Lord’s words come to him, even through the mouth of a dead prophet. He and his sons will die the very next day in battle, and the army of Israel will fall into the hands of the enemy.
I can’t imagine anything more terrible than being forsaken by God. What must it feel like to seek the Lord, and not receive any response? No peace in knowing that He hears you, is with you and watches over you? Saul had the choice to trust in the Lord, to obey Him and seek His will for his life and the kingdom. But he turned his back on God’s guidance, refusing to repent even when confronted with his sins. Only at his most desperate do we read about Saul seeking God again.
But thanks to Jesus and the Holy Spirit, you and I never have to know what it feels like for God to abandon us. The Bible is full of His promises of faithfulness and enduring love to those who seek Him. Not even in the darkest moments of your life will you have to be without the Lord, not even for an instant. Jesus is with you. All you have to do, is call out to Him, and He’ll be there.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for being faithful, even when I hurt You. Protect me from sinning, and don’t let me fall into the hands of Satan. Set my heart on You alone, because I am lost without You. Amen.
