“I came to Australia as a refugee from Bosnia. I couldn’t speak English and it was difficult settling into Noble Park. I have now finished my Medical Degree at Melbourne University and I think you often hear the negative stories about refugees. I want to s
hare and enhance positive refugee experiences”. Jasmina Kevric, President, Footprints Enterprises Inc. "We live in a time of great fear and uncertainty. In such times we need the tools to humanise us and make us civil. One of the greatest of these tools is art... Art puts us in awe of the human spirit and its ability to struggle, question, achieve and triumph. Even more importantly, at present art offers us the opportunity to gather together publicly to share those transforming experiences, to be human, to be at our best and most beautiful – together." Robyn Archer, the former Artistic Director for the Melbourne International Arts Festival. Footprints’ was developed in order to ‘create spaces to bring about social change through the creative arts.’ We believe that a young person’s story is important to them and if they choose to express it, the guise of art offers an opportunity for this story to be told in a way that crosses human barriers of understanding. Footprints’ seeks to support young people’s exploration of their identity through the use of creative arts in a supportive, likeminded community. By using the tool of creative expression as a bridge we hope to inspire and educate - addressing racial tensions in Australia. Our Collective Vision
• To educate our young people about the importance of cultural history and identity, the joy of being creative and focused, and the empowerment of connecting as a community.
• To promote mutual respect, open-mindedness and social equality – to reduce violence, substance abuse, and discrimination.
• To challenge social and institutional racism and prejudice that exists in Australia.
• To bring diverse people together and build strong relationships through music and performing arts.
